Happy Tuesday, friends!  With the high temps around 70 or lower everyday this week in Southern California, it’s time to pull out ALL of the fall things!  Hats, scarves, OTK boots – bring it on.  Admittedly, I’m half-kidding and halfway just jumping the gun, but I seriously love fall accessories.  And my fave in particular?  A thick and cozy blanket scarf.

They go with pretty much any fall look I could put together, and I love pairing the plaid versions with stripes or similar plaids for a mixed prints look.  When it’s actually cold out, a good blanket scarf has some serious warming power and doubles as a pillow or blanket (duh!) for those holiday travel plans.  (I legit take one on every single winter flight.)

They last season after season, so I used to snag mine for $30, $40, or even $50 from Zara, ASOS, or similar stores, but not anymore, friends.  I’ve found the blanket scarf Mecca, and I promptly ordered a couple more colors for my collection.  There are 13 colors to choose from, and each one will cost you around $12 or less.  (Some are just $9.)

So whether you live in actual cold weather and want to stock up or just want to cross a few early holiday gifts off your list, head over here and throw a couple blanket scarves in your cart.  Bonus?  Everything is better with Amazon Prime, right?  Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Ahh, happy Tuesday, loves!  Yesterday in Southern California was the dreamiest gloomy, overcast day, and I was one happy camper about it.  It reminded me of just how close we are (hopefully) to fall weather and, most importantly, fall fashion.  Bring on the leather, the boots, the fur, and drum roll, please….the blanket scarves.  By far the best fall accessories, blanket scarves have become my go-to for getting cozy and especially for traveling.  (They easily double as a blanket or pillow on chilly airplanes.)  Above are a few of my favorite picks from this season, and below are some of my own blanket scarf looks from the past few seasons.  Now bring on the pumpkin spice everything and call me basic because it’s time to get REALLL cozy, people.

Yesterday I shared a few looks and highlights from a recent trip to Sundance with Stella Artois, but today I’m sharing just one more look from the trip and maybe what turned out to be a surprise favorite morning there.  When I first arrived in Utah, my Uber driver to Park City warned me that I was getting to town right before the snow.

And snow it did.  I had been checking my weather app for the entire week leading up to the trip and thought that it would probably snow for a few hours on Friday night, but once it started, it pretty much didn’t stop.  We woke up Saturday morning in a serious snow globe, which was probably the best way to spend my first morning there.  The balcony of my hotel room was covered in snow, as were all of the grounds surrounding the hotel.

I stayed in bed for a bit watching the snow with a cup of coffee, but then obviously Kathleen and I had to do some snowy exploring.  I mean, it’s not everyday that a couple of Southern California residents get pictures in snow.  So we roamed around the Newpark Resort Hotel and further solidified what I already knew – Utah is so, so beautiful and even more magical in the snow.

This jacket (last seen here) was the only bigger coat that I brought along on the trip, and I was so happy to have it.  It’s so lightweight and easy to pack, but in the chilliest temps, it’s seriously warm.  The sherpa-lined hood and pockets kept my ears and hands super warm, and if you’ve got any snowy trips on the horizon, I can’t recommend this one more.

Here’s hoping everyone has a great week!

We kicked off 2017 by packing up our house and getting ready for a pretty easy remodel.  We were adding on a dining room and an office for Eric and changing out all of the existing exterior plaster for new.  We found an awesome rental house and thought we’d make ourselves at home there for about a month.  (The plaster changing meant we wouldn’t have exterior walls, so the house was just too cold to live in.)  You know what they say, the best laid plans…

Fast forward five months, and our sweet little remodel turned into an entirely different house.  We eliminated walls, vaulted ceilings, did an entire kitchen remodel, and changed just about every room in the house.  Over the next seven months, we added on a front patio with a fire pit that we love, completely reworked the backyard to include a built-in BBQ and jacuzzi area, and finally switched out the dirt yard and port-o-potty out front for actual grass and landscaping.  (Hashtag, that construction life.)  And I swear, more photos of the home are coming soon.

In May after moving back into our house, we welcomed our sweet pup Louise, and although girlfriend certainly put me through it for a couple of months, she’s now the sweetest little member of our family.  (And as you can probably tell from the photos above, my furry sidekick loves a good photo opp.)

Over the summer we were super fortunate to purchase a house in Palm Springs (more photos here) and worked with a handful of amazing companies to furnish, decorate, and make it a home.  We’ve loved every single day we’ve gotten to spend there, loved ringing in the new year there, and can’t wait to spend more time in the desert this year.

Over the past year, I’ve gotten to enjoy some amazing travels – both near and far – from a crazy nice girls’ getaway to Playa de La Paz in Mexico to my dream long weekend in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with my love and a couple of friends.  (More on that Jackson trip, still to come.)  This year, I got to work with some amazing brands, interview Reese Witherspoon (even if I did stumble all over my words like a starstruck idiot), celebrate one whole year of marriage, and keep this little blog going, doing exactly what I love doing.

Year after year, I’m so very fortunate that you guys keep reading and following along on my journey.  I’m so thankful for all the comments, likes, emails, in-person hello’s and so very thankful for this little community.  There are already some fun things in the works for 2018, so I certainly hope that you’ll keep following along!  Here’s hoping everyone has the best year ahead!

xoxo

Low Key Style With Target

After the hustle and bustle of the holidays and getting all dressed up for this party and that, I spend my January wondering just how acceptable it is to leave the house in my pajamas. While I never really win that internal battle with myself and the PJ’s are left at home, I do try to take things a little easier and avoid heels whenever possible. I’ve 100% bought in to the whole “sneakers go with everything” trend that’s happening right now and spend the rest of my days in comfortable, flat booties.  As far as clothing goes, I’ve been living in distressed skinnies and found my two favorite pairs recently at Target.  Their high rise jeggings are seriously amazing – fit true to size, feel so comfortable, and cost under $30.  Add a slouchy sweater like this total Target steal, and you’re on your low-key way without looking like a pajama-clad slob kabob. Need a little more laidback inspiration?  Try a simple pair of black leggings (the ones below are fleece-lined – SO cozy!) with a basic tee and cardigan.  Have fun with accessories – like a coated beanie, mirrored aviators, a handbag, booties – the athleisure possibilities are endless. Check out a few more of my favorite picks below from Target as well as a fun little video.

Christmas Eve is finally here, and I’m one holly jolly, Christmas-loving elf today.  Every year Eric and I switch off where we spend Christmas and Thanksgiving: one holiday in California, and one in Louisiana.  This year, it’s a California Christmas with my soon-to-be West Coast family, and as an added bonus, my parents are here too.  I’m so excited to spend the next couple of days surrounded by so much family, fun, and food.  (God help me, this whole “shedding for the wedding” thing isn’t going very well.  Perhaps I’ll start over after the holidays…)  Today I’m sharing a few photos from a recent trip to Tanaka Farms, and if you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ll probably notice that I’m obsessed with this James Jeans coat lately.  Obsessed.  It’s the perfect weight for the chilly days we’ve had lately, and I love the easy sleeves.  Plus, it leaves a little extra room for those inevitable Christmas cookies that I can never resist.  ‘Tis the season, right?!  Merry Christmas, y’all!

Recently I’ve gone a little stripe-crazy, and more specifically, striped t-shirt dress crazy.  I’ve picked up, like, three striped t-shirt dresses in the last couple of weeks, and this $11 version is hands-down my favorite.  (It’s admittedly a smidge short, so I wear little lace shorts underneath.)  It’s crazy versatile and can pretty much be worn a different way everyday of the week, so today I’m switching it around four ways to suit any mood.  From a cozy poncho to tomboy plaids to sleek over-the-knee boots, the pairings are endless.  The question is, how would you wear yours?  Happy Friday!

Bringing Back the Holidays

It’s the season of sparkle, the season of spiced cider and eggnog, the season of trees and wreaths, and most importantly, the season of giving.  It seems like the “giving” part sometimes gets lost in all the hustle and bustle, and we end up grabbing this or that because we need a last-minute gift.  This year, I’m trying to change that, and I’m teaming up with T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods to “bring back the holidays.”  Armed with a gift card and full blast Christmas music, I headed to T.J.Maxx to find the perfect gift for someone deserving this season.  I chose Eric’s (and my soon-to-be) aunt Jeri who lives in Boston, and I can think of no one who deserves a thoughtful gift more this season.  More than just an aunt, this April she’ll be the one who marries us.  She’s just the best, and unfortunately we won’t get to spend the holidays with her this year.  She’s all about her family and her kids, and I wanted to get her a gift that was just for her.  Nothing for the home, nothing to share, just something for her to enjoy.  And she’s a fashionable gal, so a handbag just seemed perfect.  I narrowed my choices down to two: one (gorgeous) leather and calfhair bag that’s great for everyday and one luxe clutch that she could take out to dinner with her girlfriends.  I don’t want to spoil the surprise, so I won’t tell you which bag won.  But I will say, it took all my strength not to keep the second bag for myself.  (They’re so good, right?!)  I’m so excited for this gift and can’t wait to ship it off to Boston.  It’s the season of giving, y’all, and it’s time to bring back the holidays.  Who will you surprise this season?
