H&M sweater dress and over-the-knee socks;  Sam Edelman bootsZara scarf (serious favorite)Nordstrom hat;  Calvin Klein sunglasses

This week I’ve been on a bit of a cleaning spree, and I’ve realized that…I own a scarf or two…too many.  Now I’m never one to admit too much of a good thing, but a scarf overload in our little beach house has happened.  So I’m on a bit of a purge as of late, but the point of this little rant is that I have a thing for scarves.  And I have a big thing for this one.  It feels like one of those Christmas tablecloths my mom used when I was little, and it’s warmer than all get-out (something that has actually been a negative lately during our 70 degree days, but just go with it).  I’ve convinced myself that it goes with everything, and I’m suddenly one of those “plaid people”.  It’s the perfect way to liven up a basic grey sweater dress (that I scored for $10 and am currently kicking myself for not buying the navy version as well but we’ll save that for another day…).  It’s been a bit gloomy here, but you can’t keep me down – it’s five days until Christmas Eve, and this elf is feeling jolly.  Hope everyone else is having a great week!

Holiday Gift Guide: $30 and Under

Picture

It’s that time of year again: I’m rounding up a few of my favorite things and talking holiday gifts for everyone on your list.  I’ve got a few in the works, but I’m starting things off with a few under $30 finds that won’t break the bank.  So skip the headache and laugh at the lines because checking names off your holiday list just got a whole lot easier.  My personal fave?  Well let’s just say I’ve already scooped up #10 for myself.  (I’ve got to test things out and make sure they’re worthy, right?)

Max Studio striped tee;  Paige Denim plaid (c/o);  American Apparel leggingsWorld Footwear Group boots (c/o) VAULT;  Gorjana necklace;  Bracelets:C.Wonder and GorjanaHenri Bendel aviators
In today’s third and final installment of “These Boots Go With Anything”, I’m wearing the $50 wonder boots with my typical fall Sunday morning duds.  (See the other looks here and here.)  These pictures were actually taken this past Sunday when we woke up pretty early and decided to walk to breakfast.  (I’m not a morning person.  Like, not even close.  So on the weekends, if I wake up early enough to beat the breakfast crowds, we usually take advantage.)  Black pants or leggings tucked into black over-the-knee boots create the illusion of long legs, and a cozy plaid was just made for Sunday mornings.

Whether slipped over jeans or leggings or worn with a mini dress, these boots from VAULT are such an easy and versatile addition to your winter wardrobe, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be once again wearing them all weekend if the weather cooperates.  (Over-the-knee boots in 80 degree weather is really not advisable.)  I’m excited for a little early birthday brunch on Sunday and hope everyone has an amazing weekend!

This leather jacket was such a sweet find at T.J.Maxx recently, and I can’t help but throw it on with just about everything.  I love how it adds a little something interesting to easy boyfriend jeans and a laidback plaid.  Finished with a pair of classic leather booties, this outfit is my ideal weekend wear and a comfortable fall uniform.  Which pieces are currently on replay in your wardrobe?  Happy Friday, everyone!

Prep School

After spending a solid twelve years of my life in a (private school mandated) knee-length plaid skirt, I’d say it’s with good reason that the whole preppy thing is not a look I usually go for.  Usually.  But then I spent a little too much time browsing Madewell’s tailored, prep-perfect site, and my inner Blair Waldorf couldn’t get enough.  I love the bold hues of this printed, pleated mini paired with this slim and sleek double-breasted blazer.  Tone the look down slightly with a heavy dose of black: chunky scarf, warm tights, ankle boots and a crossbody bag.  Finish with a few gold touches for an Upper Eastside meets the Countryside chic.

Winter Weekend Getaway

Sweet and Casual Friday

‘Tis the season for sweaters, and this year, Old Navy has cozy covered.  Whether you’re packing your bags for a winter getaway or simple planning your upcoming weekend, there’s nothing more versatile and fun than a neutral crew-neck with a little owl pizzazz.  Create a casual Friday feel with wintery plaid, simple booties and a basic scarf, or go for all-out glam for a holiday party with a sequin mini and statement gold extras.  Finally, wrap up the weekend in laidback style by throwing your sweater over a tunic and leggings.  Which of these winter looks would you rather rock?
