Today I saw a website countdown that Christmas is only 18 days away (17 for Hanukkah), and I was like, that can’t be right.  In my mind, I swear it’s still October, and I’m thinking that my lack of Christmas awareness has to do with our lack of Christmas tree (due to some home remodel plans) this year.  But ready or not, my favorite day of the year is right around the corner – YAY!  I’ve decided that all I want for Christmas this year is to spend it with family and friends and way too much food and sweatpants and snow (is that too much to ask, Louisiana?), but today I’m rounding up a holiday wishlist because a little bit of daydreaming never hurt anybody.  And while my own Santa Clause may say dream on, there’s no rule against treating yourself this season, is there?  (P.S. – don’t worry, looking for gifts a bit more affordable?  Check out this cozy gift guide.)

With Thanksgiving just two days away now, Black Friday is also just around the corner.  If you’re like me, then Black Friday is nothing more than a little online shopping from the couch, and this year lots of retailers are kicking off their sales early so you don’t have to wait until Friday.  (I mean, why waste a perfectly good food coma-induced Friday morning sleep-in?)  Starting today, Shopbop is launching their “Buy More, Save More” sale sitewide – on both full priced and sale items.  Besides hundreds of new markdowns, take 15% off orders of $200+, 20% off orders of $500+, and 25% off orders of $800+ with code GOBIG16.  Personally, I think it’s worth it to hit the sale section and grab those items you’ve had your eye on – maybe a great pair of booties, a classic handbag, or that perfect cold weather topper.  Or, skip all that and get your New Year’s Eve dress on, girl.  Grab a gift or two (under $50 options here) while you’re at it because you’re so on the ball.  Then pat yourself on the back that you’re not out battling those Black Friday crowds.  Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving week!

Since the first crack of fall this year there’s been one thing on my mind: boot season.  Up until now it’s really been more bootie season, but finally (FINALLY!) it’s time to pull out those over-the-knee boots.  Today I’m wearing my first new pair of the season, and these boots were made for walkin’.  They’re made by Born, so you know they’re as comfy as can be, but there are so many other reasons why I love these boots.  We don’t get much rain here in Southern California, but there’s one particular February Fashion Week memory forever burned into my brain involving a little NYC black ice and me landing right on my bum.  (Quite painfully I might add.)  The rubber soles on these are cushy and grippy (not a word?) without looking like some kind of aggressive work boot.  I also love the distressed look of the suede and the fact that they actually stay up, something I’m constantly battling with my thinner suede boots.  Plus, you can just tell that these are made to last, and if I’m going to spend the money on over-the-knee boots, I want them to last for a few seasons.  They’re part of an exclusive collaboration with Nordstrom, and you can get your pair right over here, at Nordstrom online, or at select Nordstrom locations.  Today I’m styling these with my favorite high-rise skinnies, but stay tuned this week to see them paired with an easy fall dress.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Good morning, friends!  I still have a couple of looks from New York Fashion Week coming up on the blog this week, but today I’m recapping a fashion event a little closer to home – Style Week OC.  You guys, it was such a fun night.  The event was put on by Fashion Island and featured a runway show with fall looks from Bloomingdale’s, Trina Turk, Rebecca Taylor, Anthropologie, Elie Tahari, Halston Heritage, and Nordstrom.  After watching runways packed with spring looks in New York, the fall looks on the runway in Style Week OC got me so excited for fall prints, sweaters, scarves, boots, and fur accents.  (Fall weather, where are you?!)

I partnered up with Trina Turk for the night, and y’all, I could not love the fall collection there any more.  The bold prints are primed for mixing and matching so easily, and the caped pieces, I died.  I loved so many pieces in the store, but in the end, I just had to choose this plaid cape dress with the printed bag and heels combo.  Had to.  And now I wear these heels and the bag, like, all the time.  Teaming up with the Trina Turk team felt like such a perfect fit for me, and it was so great working with the gals in the store.  And SO, SO great meeting everyone who came into the store for the meet-and-greet after the runway show.  What better way to connect with a few readers than over yummy bites, a cocktail, and a little shopping?  Clearly it was a night filled with my favorite things.

This Week’s Fall Must-Haves

fall must-haves 1. Plaid Infinity Scarf  2. Grey Patent Leather Mule Loafer  3. Drape Front Faux Leather Jacket  4. Kendall + Kylie Booties  5. Seam Detail Sleeveless Sweater  6. Spanx Faux Leather Leggings

After two glorious days of overcast fallish-ness earlier this week, the urge to do SO much fall shopping damage is way strong.  Way strong.  Must keep reminding myself that all of the fall must-haves that I’ve already adopted are still waiting their turn to make it out of the closet.  But if you’ve been patiently waiting to add to your fall wardrobe, then today’s post is for you, friend.  And you know what, I’ll just go ahead and be honest.  The dress at number 8 is already on its way to me, and I’m JUSSST about to pull the trigger on those killer faux leather leggings that suck you all in and make you look like a supermodel.  But then once I get the leggings, I think I’ll have to pair them with the sleeveless sweater and suede booties.  And the camo shirt jacket.  You should know that as a Southerner who grew up surrounded by camo-clad hunters and fishermen, I always swore up and down, side to side and backwards that I’d never wear anything camo.  And yet here I am, staring at this camo shirt jacket like, where have you been all my life?  Someone send help.  (Also, this happened and I wasn’t even mad at it.)  But I mean, cute outfit, right?  Especially cute once you add the navy handbag and ring because I clearly have a fall problem and we’ve already come this far so let’s just keep going.  (I’m not calling them my fall must-haves for nothing.)  Which pieces are calling your name for the fall season?

Happy Tuesday, friends!  How is everyone’s week so far?  Mine is off to a pretty good start as operation front yard makeover is currently under way.  Our home makeover process started back in April, and we were moving crazy fast to get things done in order to move in.  (You can see a few sneak peeks here.)  Now that we’re in and all settled, the process has slowed down dramatically because I think we just needed a break.  The finishing touches for every single room were stalled, and finishing up the dirt front yard got pushed back and pushed back for one reason or another.  But this week we’re diving back in and starting on our front yard and I couldn’t be more excited.  A planter is happening around our palm tree, grass is replacing the dirt, and a front little patio is finally going in.  I can’t wait to share pics with you guys once this crazy mess is looking brand new.

In the meantime though, I’m keeping myself occupied with all things fall fashion and sharing a little fall wishlist with you guys today.  Far from being the full list, this is just a little sampling of what I have my eye on for the new season, but first things first: new over-the-knee boots.  My current OTK boots are from a couple of seasons ago, and while I still love them, I think it’s probably time to let them go.  Well-loved would be an understatement here.  So I’m on the hunt and thinking these are a pretty sweet option.  And you know, after finding the perfect boots you may as well reward yourself with a cute little fall dress or two, sleek leather pants, or the perfect striped too, right?  What do you guys have on your fall wishlist?

It’s here, it’s here – my favorite time of year!  (Well, almost.)  The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale officially kicks off today, and I’m REALLY excited for so many of the finds.  Over the next couple of weeks I’m sure you’ll notice lots of buzz around this sale (I’ll be chatting lots about it myself), and you’ll probably wonder, what gives, lady?  I promise that it’s all for good reason because a sale this good really only happens at Nordstrom, and it only happens right now.  Most sales from other retailers (while good) are on end-of-season or almost out-of-stock pieces, but the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the only place for amazing deals on brand new, next season goodies.  From clothing, shoes, and accessories (hello, handbag heaven), there are literally thousands of deals that are yours for the taking.  Currently the sale is in the “Early Access” phase and only open to Nordstrom card-holders, but let me explain.  I personally never ever apply for store credit cards as a personal rule and hate when you have to use a particular card for a sale, but Nordstrom does offer a store debit card.  That means it’s hooked right up to your checking account like your normal debit card – purchases are pulled right from your account, and there’s no bill to pay at the end of the month.  Not bad, right?  So today I’m rounding up a few of the pieces that initially caught my eye (and landed right in my shopping cart), but stay tuned over the next couple of weeks where I’ll be sending more “can’t miss” finds your way.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Hot Right Now: Leafy Prints

Whether it’s floral, plaid, leopard or stripes, I’m always down for a good print, and right now, I can’t get enough of the leafy prints that are everywhere this season.  From swimsuits and coverups to accessories and even home decor (and maybe especially home decor), these leafy prints and palm tree pieces have me ready for summer and daydreaming about a tropical vacay.  In fact I may just order a few of these, fill my backyard with sand, and kick back with some sort of cocktail in one of these things…and then promptly skip town when Eric discovers our newly-grassed backyard filled with sand…and head somewhere tropical wearing this.  So really, I’ve got this thing all planned out.  Who’s with me?

After the hustle and bustle of the holidays and getting all dressed up for this party and that, I spend my January wondering just how acceptable it is to leave the house in my pajamas. While I never really win that internal battle with myself and the PJ’s are left at home, I do try to take things a little easier and avoid heels whenever possible. I’ve 100% bought in to the whole “sneakers go with everything” trend that’s happening right now and spend the rest of my days in comfortable, flat booties.  As far as clothing goes, I’ve been living in distressed skinnies and found my two favorite pairs recently at Target.  Their high rise jeggings are seriously amazing – fit true to size, feel so comfortable, and cost under $30.  Add a slouchy sweater like this total Target steal, and you’re on your low-key way without looking like a pajama-clad slob kabob. Need a little more laidback inspiration?  Try a simple pair of black leggings (the ones below are fleece-lined – SO cozy!) with a basic tee and cardigan.  Have fun with accessories – like a coated beanie, mirrored aviators, a handbag, booties – the athleisure possibilities are endless. Check out a few more of my favorite picks below from Target as well as a fun little video.
