Good morning, friends!  Over the past couple of weeks you may have noticed a few guest appearances by this little gal over on my Instagram, but today I wanted to formally introduce our new Vizsla pup Louise!  The full name is Louise Ana Prendergast (named after my favorite Southern state, obvi), but mostly we just call her Weeze.  And let me tell you, although she’s little, Weeze girl has added a whole lotta spice around here.

I’ll admit that I never really had a dog on the agenda.  I’ve never had a dog, and I certainly have zero experience wrangling a brand new puppy.  But Eric has been nonstop chatting about getting a Vizsla since before we started the whole home remodel adventure, and when the finish line was in sight, I knew the pup was coming soon.  And she showed up all cute and tiny and wrinkly and mellow, and I was instantly in love.  It’s really hard to say no to those adorable little puppy eyes and those big, floppy ears.

From day one, she’s slept in her crate through the night with no problem, no accidents.  That part has seriously been a dream.  But during the day, ohhhh, man.  During the day, Weeze girl has REALLY put me through it, y’all.  The puppy stage is legit no joke, and I swear some days I thought I was losing my mind.  (Or maybe I already have – fast forward to me arriving at a happy hour on day 3 with the pup and immediately bursting into tears at the sight of girlfriends.  That’s normal, right?!)

But now we’re about three weeks in, and there is good news to report, folks.  The Weeze and I are now in a good daily groove, and this little pup is pretty much potty-trained.  Big victories, y’all.  And as for Eric?  Well he’s completely a smitten kitten, and Weezy lives to impress him.  Plus, I mean, she’s just so dang cute.  I last-minute decided to take her along for these outfit photos in the neighborhood last week, and it turns out Weeze loves the camera.  What a little poser, right?!

So if any of you guys are currently in that puppy stage, stay strong, friends!  Because it is legit so hard, and while I know that we’re nowhere near out of the woods, it’s getting better and better every day.  (Puppy bath time is a real standout around here.)  And, like, when there’s a puppy napping on your lap, can you really even remember those psycho puppy moments?  Maybe don’t answer that.  Hope everyone has a great week ahead!

xoxo

Double the Trouble: Meet Wilma

She joined us just about a month ago, and now that the holiday whirlwind is behind us, I wanted to formally introduce the newest little fur baby in our household.  Meet Wilma!  That’s right, I’ve completely lost my mind.  Two dogs.  Anyone who knows me knows that the first pup nearly drove me insane (Remember wayyyyy back here when I shared a little pup-date on baby Weeze?), and now I suppose I’ve really done it.

While Weeze’s wild baby Vizsla phase nearly killed me, we had finally gotten into the easy breezy swing of things around here.  A three-mile walk every day and plenty of snuggles, and Weeze and I were two happy campers.  So let’s add a wild new one to the bunch, shall we?  To be fair, we knew we eventually wanted to add a second dog to the fam but decided to speed things up for Weeze’s biological sister.  (Yep, they’ve got the same furry parents.)

I’d say that the best decision we made was to have the pups meet at the breeder’s house, on neutral territory.  So in December before Eric and I headed off to Jackson Hole, we dropped Weeze off with her trainer slash breeder to hang out with Wilma for a couple of weeks before bringing them home together.  The gals came home right before Christmas, and y’all, look at these two little nuggets on their first night home together.  And then one week in during a nap together – melt my heart!

While the sleepy times and cute cuddly photos are pretty adorable, trust me when I say it’s been a wild ride this last month.  I’ve had lots of messages asking if it’s way harder with two pups (especially from fellow Vizsla parents), and the answer is a little bit yes and mostly no.  (As I type this, the rambunctious gremlins are WWE wrestling on my damn Pottery Barn couch, so you know, maybe the jury is still out.)

Personality-wise, they are so very different, and I’ll start off by saying it – Wilma is WILD, y’all.  So wild.  Eric and I call her “Bonkers” in the morning because girlfriend thinks it’s party time as soon as she breaks free from her crate.  She is constantly hungry and on occasion can be found pounding her little paw in an empty food bowl while staring me down.  I’m not even kidding.  (In those moments, we refer to her as The Hoss.)  In general though, she is just so sweet.  Her tail is ALWAYS wagging, and she runs and greets every single person with so much love and excitement.

Overall, the puppy phase this time around has definitely been a bit easier.  (So far, knock on wood, please, sweet Jesus tell me this is good puppy karma or something.)  It really is true what they say – monkey see, monkey do.  Wilma wants nothing more than to follow Weeze around all day and do every single thing her big sister is doing (including going to the bathroom OUTSIDE for the most part – glorious).  And Weeze in turn has been very…patient.  Luckily they get along amazingly during the day, but when Weeze gets a little too tired and old lady crabby, we try to keep little Bonkers away.

Do they make me crazy running around like banshees barking and playing in the house?  One hund-o percent.  But is it all pretty worth it once they’ve worn each other out and are both trying to squeeze up closer to me on the couch at night?  Yeppers.  And so, here goes another wild day with these two furry fools – hoping yours is just as fun.

xoxo

Happy Friday, friends!  I seriously cannot believe that it is already December 21st and the Friday before Christmas!  I swear Thanksgiving was just yesterday, but what a whirlwind month it’s been.  From family time in Louisiana to shopping in Vegas, photoshoots in Palm Springs, eating and exploring around Jackson Hole, and taking in my first snow polo match in Aspen, it’s been an amazing month of travel, experiences, food, and so many people I love.

But today, I’m so happy to be homeward bound to my best buddy and our TWO pups.  Yep, Weeze and her new sister Wilma come home tomorrow, and we couldn’t be more excited.  Am I ready for that puppy phase all over again?  That would be a definite no, but I guess here goes nothing.

So today I’m sharing a few snaps of my favorite time of year in our home.  There’s nothing better than coming downstairs in the morning to Christmas trees (the smell!), lights, stockings, and all that Christmas jazz.  I’m especially loving the dining room and our new Christmas dishes that we’ll be using for years to come, and is there anything better than a red-headed pup in her Christmas sweater?  I think not.  Hope you guys have the best weekend ahead!

5 Things I’m Loving This Week

PMD Clean | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Eberjey pajamasPMD Clean

Happy Friday, friends!  It’s been a few weeks since I’ve chatted about 5 things I’m loving (I blame Thanksgiving travels, a little bit of sickness, and life in general), but this week I’m feeling holly jolly, loving all the things.  It was actually hard to narrow it down to five, but here we go.  Five things I’m loving this week, and I’d love to know – what’s bringing you guys joy this week?

PMD Clean – I’ve been a fan of the brand’s personal microderm device for a while but recently discovered the PMD Clean, and whoa.  If you’re a Clarisonic girl like me, trust, it’s totally different, and for the record, I have and use both.  The PMD Clean has a rubberized head (instead of the bristles of the Clarisonic) and vibrates like a facial massage.  There are 4 speeds, and I’ve been using one side in the shower with favorite cleansers and the flip side out of the shower to help my favorite moisturizers sink in.  If you’re going to invest in good skincare, this is a good tool to help that skincare sink in.

Rainy days in Southern California – In the past two weeks, we’ve had three whole days of rain around here.  And not normal Southern California rain.  Hard, hard rain with wind and skies that look like nighttime in the middle of the day.  I grew up around SO. MUCH. RAIN in South Louisiana, and I’ve missed some of those days since moving here.  These past two weeks have given me the first couple of days of staying in, keeping the PJ’s on, and getting so much work done inside during the rain.  Besides a newfound roof leak that we never knew about since the remodel, it’s been so nice.  But for the record, Louise the Viz is NOT about it.  Good God, that puppy hates rain.  (And if you need a good laugh, check out these Vizslas wearing boots.  I die.)

Decking the halls – Oh holy moly, there’s nothing I love more than when our house is decked out for Christmas.  Nothing.  The trees, the stockings, the garland, the lights outside – it all makes me happy, happy, happy like Phil from Duck Dynasty.  And hey, while we’re at it, I’ll throw in little Weeze wearing a Christmas sweater because that photo will be hitting the ‘gram soon.  I’m working on a full post of our holiday decor because all these online orders and trips to HomeGoods need to be documented, right?

Packing up for Jackson Hole – You guys, I stand corrected.  Wanna know what makes me happier than our house decorated for Christmas?  It’s heading out to Jackson Hole.  We went last winter and made another trip this past summer, and I’m so excited that we are headed back next week.  This time around, it’s gonna be even COLDER than last year with a lot more snow, and I’m ready for it.  I’ll be taking all of the cold weather essentials from last year and adding in a couple of new goodies.  This bright red coat?  Count it in.  With this bright red sweater underneath?  Yep.  And this year, I’ll be adding in these cozy inserts into my favorite snow boots.  Any other recommendations?

Skinny Pasta – I shared this one on my Instagram stories this week, and you guys were HERE for it.  And I can’t blame you!  If you’re trying to live that semi-healthy life or go low carb during the week like us, pasta has been a big no-no for years.  Eric and I have been grubbing through so much spaghetti squash for a while, and honestly, we’re a little bit over it right now.  I found this Skinny Pasta at Sprouts recently, and we love it.  It’s the most pasta-like thing we’ve found, and unlike with spaghetti squash, it keeps us full long after dinner.  Did I mention that one serving serves up five carbs and under ten calories?  We loved it so much, I recently ordered the full variety of what they offer.  The “rice” version is a little bit noodle-y, but throw some red beans in there, and you’ll be A-OK.

Dressed Down Metallic Mini + Our Non-Halloween Plans

Remember this little metallic skirt from this post?  Well I promised myself I wouldn’t let it sit unworn in my closet forever, so today I’m taking her for a spin with a slouchy little sweater and those favorite sneakers again.  And will probably be re-wearing it for dinner tonight at the Red O.  Yep, dinner, because this year we are skipping Halloween.

You can call me a Halloween scrooge, but trick-or-treating in our neighborhood is seriously aggressive.  There is a house that was built to look like a castle that throws the biggest haunted house in the city and invites everyone in, so we get tons and tons of families passing through.  Last year we went through 750 candy bars by 7:30 and got yelled at by two disgruntled mothers for running out.  I’m not even kidding.

So this year I bought the usual giant mound of expensive candy, thought about Weeze losing her mind with every single “trick-or-treat”, and figured this year we could use a break.  Candy was returned, dinner reservations were made, and we’re taking our little hot dog to hang with her best doggo pal.  I know, I know – are we totally lame?  I don’t care, and I’m sure we’ll be back in the treat-giving action next year.  But maybe if you’re hitting the streets with your kids tonight, try not to yell at people for running out of candy.  I don’t know, just a thought.

Happy Halloween, friends!

5 Things I’m Loving This Week

Louise the Vizsla | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Madewell flats (more sizes here);  Julie Vos bracelets

Happy Friday, friends!  Back atcha this week with another installment of 5 things I’m Loving This Week.  Are y’all liking these?  Are they annoying?  Rest assured, these aren’t sponsored, they’re seriously just things I’m loving.  Things that are making my week better.  Things that I think you might love too.  (BTW, if you bought Mike’s Hot Honey from this post a couple weeks ago, make sure you try it on pizza.  I did this week and can never have pizza without it.)  Honey or no honey, here’s hoping everyone has a sweet weekend ahead.  Too cheesy?  I don’t care.  Here goes –

The cutest little pumpkins – I’ll admit that Christmas decorations are my main jam (see caption here), but lately I’ve been really digging the fall vibes around here.  I’ve got a new favorite candle burning in the kitchen and these adorable mini pumpkins stashed…everywhere.  I can’t help it.  How cute is that little white pumpkin above?  (Well, and the pumpkin-colored dog that’s staring at a treat under the pumpkin is pretty cute too.)

Benefect Disinfectant Wipes – I’ve been using Clorox wipes, marble cleaners, and other kitchen sprays for years, but recently a friend gave us these and I’m hooked.  (Do you ever stop to think about the chemicals in the products you’re using around your house?  Because I do.)  Benefect is a botanical disinfectant that kills just as many germs as its chemical-loaded competitors but with a toxicity less than vinegar.  (Read more here.)  It’s the stuff they use to clean up the bacteria and mold left behind by hurricanes and other natural disasters, so I’m pretty sure it can handle my everyday kitchen disasters…and the ones left behind by the pumpkin-colored velvet head above.  And as an added bonus for my fellow essential oil lovers, they leave behind a slight scent of thyme – no Clorox gas mask needed.

The luxe jacket I can’t wait to wear – A couple of weeks ago I took a quick trip to NYC, and between meetings and a fun happy hour with friends, it was a good little trip.  The cherry on top was definitely coming home with the most beautiful, versatile jacket from Cinzia Rocca that I can’t wait to wear.  The hood, cuffs, and padded button-down mid-section are all removable, so I can wear the plaid part here, and the full, warm get-up will be amazing during this winter’s Jackson Hole trip.  (Oh you know we’re going back.)  And if you want another, less-expensive cold weather jacket that I love, this one from Carve Designs is 100% it.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation – If you follow along with my Instagram stories, you know that I received the most generous package from Estée Lauder a few weeks ago with SO many shades of their Double Wear Foundation.  Well I’ve tried it, and I LOVE it.  True to its claims, it really does stay right in place.  I put it to the ultimate test during a friend’s recent rainy-day, humid Louisiana wedding, and at the end of the night, I really didn’t feel like my makeup was struggling.  (Southern girls, you know – 100% humidity shows no mercy.)  And, if you’re one of the 30-something readers who received your shade in the mail from me, I hope you’re loving it too!

Malibu Farm at Lido Marina Village – This week I had lunch with my last boss before I took the blog full-time, and we decided on the new Malibu Farm at Lido Marino Village.  Besides meeting up with one of my favorite humans who happens to be a former boss, I’ve got all the happy feelings about the new Malibu Farm.  You’re sitting right on the water, but the menu just takes the experience over the top.  Cauliflower crust pizza, burrata salad, and the best Branzino fish tacos?  Sign me up.  And next time, I’m definitely doing a little research on the F’Rosé Cocktail.  You know, for the blog.

Happy half-week, friends!  Today I’m excited to share one of my favorite sales with you guys.  Shopbop, one of my favorite retailers for both (affordable) shopping and (high end) inspiration, is having one of their only sales of the year.  Pick your faves, and receive 20-25% off your entire purchase (some brands excluded, depending how much you spend) with code STOCKUP18.

Now admittedly, I took these photos thinking my beloved Spanx leggings would be included, but sadly they are not.  (Side note, whether they’re on sale or full-priced, you will never regret them.  I have a few pairs and wear them ALL the time.)

Spanx leggings aside, I’ve searched and searched a ton of my favorite brands on Shopbop, and so many are included.  The Quay sunglasses, Zac Zac Posen handbag, and Gorjana bracelets above?  All in.  This little black dress and handbag duo that’s so comfy and easy?  Included.  The sweet home and gifts category?  Go for it.  (See the rest of my favorites below.)

If you’ve had your eye on something new for fall or maybe something from the sale section, now’s the time, sister.  Personally, I grabbed this jacket for an upcoming wine-tasting trip, this sweater for those brutal Southern California winters (I kid), this tee for wearing eight days in a row with said Spanx leggings, and a few other things.  I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed that the pieces I picked are as good as I think they’ll be, but I’m not stressing.  Shopbop has free (fast) shipping and free returns, so we’re good, girls.

And whether you choose to shop the sale or not, hoping you enjoy a few photos above with my main girl, Weeze.  Great rest of the week, y’all.

Well, friends, she’s been a LONG time coming, but today I’m finally sharing a peek into our finished master bedroom and bath.  Like, a long time coming.  Remember this post from 2016?  Turns out, getting things “just so” with photos or art hung on the walls takes a little longer than expected.

I’ve chatted about it before, but Eric and I had quite the journey of transitioning the house that we bought into the home that we love.  When we bought the house, the master bedroom was a moldy disaster.  No joke – disaster.  As a starting point, we changed out all of the drywall, scraped the popcorn ceiling and resurfaced the wood floors that we were so happy to find under decades-old carpet.  (For the record, I’ve searched and searched for some before photos, but they just don’t exist.)

And then we thought we’d relax.  Wait a year or so and do the rest of the remodel in parts.  So I set out trying to decorate rooms, get the master bedroom feeling like a cozy home.  I worked with the most amazing designer through Havenly.  (You can check out the design renderings below.)  She helped me envision the cold room that I hated turning into the sanctuary where I’d get some rest (and snuggle with my dog…and husband).  I told her I wanted a color scheme with blue and yellow, our small space issues, and what we needed storage-wise.  (You can see that color scheme here.  Eventually though, I got jealous of the guest bedroom colors and switched everything out.)  And she killed it.

And then we slapped ourselves and realized that if we did part one of a remodel, we’d probably never go through with the next phases.  So we gutted the thing, moved out for the unexpected five months, and did everything at once.  For the master, we added a window in the bedroom and one in the bathroom, and it’s one of the best things that we did.  We get tons of sunlight, and in the hot summer months, we get just a smidge more breeze.  (And we joke that the automatic MechoShades above the bed are my morning alarm clock.)

You’re probably wondering about the ceiling fan / light pendant combo, and here’s the deal.  The fan was originally hung in the middle of the room, and once we got the bed in, it had to be moved.  The light pendant became a sort of quick fix for the hole in the ceiling where the fan was originally hanging.  And now it’s totally grown on me, so it’s here for keeps.

For the bathroom, we kept with the marble theme of the kitchen and other bathrooms and went with all white to try and open the space a bit.  (The house was built in the 60’s, and we sacrifice space in rooms for the neighborhood we love.)  I’ve had so many messages and emails about putting marble in bathrooms (wear and tear, stains, etc.), and 100% honest – we’ve had zero problems in the bathrooms.  For some reason, coffee stains, water rings, and obvious toothpaste neglect just haven’t shown their ugly faces.

My level of calm in this room is 100%.  I’ve had questions about whether Eric hates the pink in the room, and to be honest, he couldn’t care less.  We both love how light and bright it is, and the framed photos from Framebridge with Queen Weeze just complete the space.  Now that this room is finally done, it’s onto the next.

A Few Picks from the Shopbop Sale

Happy “made it halfway through the week” day, guys.  We made it through Monday, Tuesday, and halfway through Wednesday, so let’s just call it already, shall we?  Today’s sale post was supposed to go up WAY earlier, but I kicked off my day with a vet visit with Weeze who suddenly turned into a wild animal at the vet’s office.  I’m telling you, full-blown panic attack with shaking, running, and hiding under chairs.  It wasn’t pretty.  But we’re home now, all good, and after taking some time to gather ourselves, let’s move on with today’s sale deets.  (Because you’re probably gonna want to shop this one.)

It’s time again for Shopbop’s annual spring sale, and currently you can take 20 to 25% off the entire site.  (20% off purchases up to $500, 25% off anything more)  The sale applies to new merchandise and sale finds and is the perfect way to stock up on a few pieces for spring and summer.  (Or, to grab those pieces you’ve been having your eye on from winter – you know winter isn’t quite done yet, sadly.)  I’m rounding up some of my favorite picks above and am waiting on a couple to arrive on my doorstep.  For popular items, sizes move quickly, so don’t wait on this one.  Just use code EVENT18 at checkout.  Happy shopping, friends!

Five Things to Love at the Hyatt Huntington Beach

If you were following along on the good old ‘Gram this past weekend, then you probably noticed quite a few snaps from the Hyatt Huntington Beach.  Because we can never stop adding on projects for our house, Eric and I decided that we wanted to add wainscoting to a couple more walls in our living room and bar area.  Sounds simple enough.  Once the wood panels are up, then starts the sanding, bonding, and painting, and suddenly the entire house is covered in a thin layer of dust and SO many fumes.

So as a sort of early Valentine’s Day (and a definite way to keep from losing our minds), we used our best evacuation route and headed down the street to one of our favorite hotels, the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach.  We’ve stayed here once before for Eric’s birthday, but this time we brought along the pup and settled in for four nights.  So just in time for Valentine’s Day, I’m rounding up five things to love about the Hyatt Huntington Beach.

Dog-Friendly Hotel:  Like I said, we took Louise along with us, and the Hyatt was more than accommodating.  When we checked in, there was a dog bed, food and water bowls, and even a few toys in our room for Weeze which was such a nice surprise for this less-than-prepared dog mom.  She loved exploring around the property and was able to hang with us on a patio area where we had margaritas on Saturday.  Plus, she got so much love from strangers and plenty of beach walks while we were there.  Which brings me to…

Bridge to the Beach:  I always talk about this in my Instagram stories while I’m there, but it really is SO convenient that there’s a bridge from the Hyatt property across Pacific Coast Highway to the beach.  It’s the only hotel in the area that has one, and it made getting out on those beach walks so quick and easy.  And trust me, I needed the exercise after…

Pete’s Sunset Grille – If you’re staying at the Hyatt or just live somewhere around Huntington Beach, you have to check out Pete’s.  Their spicy margaritas (made seriously spicy with jalapeno-infused tequila) are my favorite of any place around here, and their Barrel Bowls are my jam.  (Think coconut rice, broccolini, protein of your choice, a fried egg…)  I’m not really a fish taco gal, but Eric and a bunch of our friends love them here.  And if you’re still hungry…

Watertable:  We ate at Watertable the last time that we stayed at the Hyatt, and we loved it.  So this time, we made sure to go back.  Twice.  In a row.  It really is that good.  On Sunday night, we shared a bunch of appetizers (Get the meatballs!  and the fries!), and on Monday night, we went with favorites from the entree list.  Eric went with the Chilean sea bass,  and I had the Branzino – both were delicious.

So Many Outdoor Spaces:  We’re super lucky to live in a place that has beautiful weather most of the year, so why not spend as much time outside as possible?  The pool area (there are a couple, but I prefer the quieter, more adult-friendly one) is huge with tons of seating and a yummy lunch menu.  There are fire pits that we sat by at night, and Weeze loved roaming around the big open grass areas.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay and didn’t want to leave!  If you’re looking for a really great place to stay in the town that I call home, you really can’t go wrong with the Hyatt Huntington Beach.  Now it’s back to reality with my two favorite Valentines – Eric and Weeze, of course.  Hope everyone has a great week!

xoxo
