One Hell of a Year

2016-4And just like that, y’all, 2016 has come and (almost) gone.  Just bananas, I tell ya.  While I’m well aware that there are quite a few 2016 haters out there (a lot went down this year), I have to say that personally, it was one hell of a year around here.  This year I married my best buddy and started on our first year of marriage.  After all of last year’s planning and prepping and dreaming and more planning, our wedding celebration was everything we could have hoped for, and we still look back on the day ALL the time.  This year we bought our first home and started the long journey of gutting it, remodeling, and putting in our own personal touches.  The first phase got us moved in and counting our blessings, and the second phase has just begun around here.  (Here’s looking at you, Spring 2017.)  This year I experienced my first cruise with the best gals, headed back to New York for Fashion Week (twice! – BRRR! That first trip was a COLD one.), ventured a bit more around California, and had a bachelorette weekend to remember with an amazing bunch.  This year was trying at its worst and amazing at its best, and I’ve got nothing but love looking back at the goals and milestones reached in 2016.  And you guys!  Nothing, nothing, nothing but love for you guys for continuing to follow along on this journey and supporting me more than you ever know along the way.  I started this blog back in 2011 as a way to chat all things clothing, shoes, bags, beauty, travel, and anything in between with fellow fashion lovers, and you guys have given me five amazing years (and counting!) of doing just that.  To the amazing readers that constantly come back, leave comments, and give the best feedback; to the brands that I’ve been SO lucky to work with this year; to the beyond talented photographers that I now call friends; and to the local spots that I just can’t get enough of, here’s one giant THANK YOU from me to you.  I can’t keep this little blog going without all of you, and I couldn’t be more thankful for this little safe space in the craziness of 2016.  So cheers to you guys, and cheers to 2017 – let’s kick this one off with a bang, shall we?

xoxo

With Thanksgiving just two days away now, Black Friday is also just around the corner.  If you’re like me, then Black Friday is nothing more than a little online shopping from the couch, and this year lots of retailers are kicking off their sales early so you don’t have to wait until Friday.  (I mean, why waste a perfectly good food coma-induced Friday morning sleep-in?)  Starting today, Shopbop is launching their “Buy More, Save More” sale sitewide – on both full priced and sale items.  Besides hundreds of new markdowns, take 15% off orders of $200+, 20% off orders of $500+, and 25% off orders of $800+ with code GOBIG16.  Personally, I think it’s worth it to hit the sale section and grab those items you’ve had your eye on – maybe a great pair of booties, a classic handbag, or that perfect cold weather topper.  Or, skip all that and get your New Year’s Eve dress on, girl.  Grab a gift or two (under $50 options here) while you’re at it because you’re so on the ball.  Then pat yourself on the back that you’re not out battling those Black Friday crowds.  Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving week!

Bam!  And just like that, the blog is packed with so much fall fashion.  And you’re sweatin’ it out somewhere like, huh?  Where did summer go?  Well I’m right there with you, girl, but I just can’t turn my back on all the new NEW that’s happening right now with fall every-thang!  So while there’s plenty more swim, beach, and summer content coming atcha in the next few weeks, pardon this interruption for some of the cutest new dresses around.  Wanna know where they’re from?  Join me for a stroll down memory lane.

Admittedly, it’s been quite a while since I shopped at Abercrombie, but back in high school, it was my jam.  You had to have a pair of Abercrombie jeans, and obviously you needed one of those perfectly stretchy ribbed tanks or graphic tees to go with them.  Fast forward more than a few years, and Abercrombie is still known for their killer denim.  What really surprised me though was how many of their adorable dresses I wanted to take home.  Not kidding, their new slew of fall dresses are so dang cute.  From t-shirt dresses to boho florals, off the shoulder dresses, and even a couple of great rompers, there are seriously so many styles just calling my name.  They’re perfect for the seasonal transition, and at prices under $100 (and many under $50!), I couldn’t help but stock up.  This beaded clutch was the icing on the cake, and I left the store with the clutch and two fall dresses for around $140.  So if it’s been a while since you’ve checked out Abercrombie, go ahead and treat yo’self to a peek at fall because I’m telling you, it’s good.

OK, guys – proud friend moment over here!  My girl Kathleen just launched the CUTEST cutest capsule collection with Morning Lavender, and it’s summertime perfection.  From adorable lemon prints to a maxi-jumpsuit hybrid situation, the pieces are seriously swoon-worthy.  Plus, the accessories.  I’m pretty sure I need every color in these sunnies.  (Although I’d probably have to sneak them into the house when Eric isn’t looking.)  And if I had to choose a favorite, I’m going with this long-sleeved floral maxi because it makes me want to twirl.  I love the sheer sleeves, the flowy fit, and pretty much everything about this dress.  It is definitely a fun one that’s so good for summer parties.  But don’t take my word for it – it’s under $80, so scoop one up and give it a twirl.  I’m seriously obsessed.  Plus, check out a few of my other favorites from the collection below.  So cute, right?!

They’re about as classic and iconic as “florals for spring”, but somehow way chicer when done right.  I’m talking about a good stripe, and the good ones are literally everywhere right now.  Like, taunting me, basically.  I mean, look at that caped jumpsuit at #13 – that thing was just made for me.  And how adorable is the mini dress at #10?  I would actually wear a strapless bra for that dress, which is basically the biggest commitment I can actually make.  Pair that little number with the clutch at #8 for a little stripe on stripe action, and I’m one happy gal.  Summer is officially around the corner, y’all!

I think a couple of summers ago I romper’d myself out and had to take a little break.  It can be hard to find one that fits a long torso, and let’s be honest, shimmying out of one to go to the bathroom kinda sucks.  It certainly didn’t affect my love of jumpsuits (don’t be silly), but rompers just weren’t doing it for me for a while.  But then I found this one, and things are back on.  It’s long-sleeved and perfect for this little spring transition that we’re having, but it’s also super lightweight for the warmer months ahead.  The flowy sleeves combined with the lace-up detailing and pockets and I was sold.  (I mean, pockets.  Duh.)  Wear it with flat sandals, wedges, or something in between like these flatforms for day to night use.  And the best part?  It’s under 50 bucks.  Score.  And that whole bathroom thing?  Just, ya know, drink less water.  Or something like that.

The last couple of days here have been FREEZING (by California standards), but somehow all I can think is, “Bring me all the spring things!”  I love me some sweater and scarf weather, but as soon as March hits, I’m ready for lightweight fabrics, sandals galore, and high doses of color.  The fact that I’m headed to Palm Springs at the end of this week doesn’t help my spring shopping itch either.  So today I’m sharing a few of the spring things that are calling my name.  What do you guys have your eyes on for the warm months ahead?

If there’s one thing in every girl’s closet, I’ll betcha it’s denim.  But these days, denim is EVERYWHERE and popping up in way more ways than just your basic jeans.  From jackets to jumpsuits, dresses and even accessories, there’s something for every blue-jean baby out there.  Wear them solo or wear a couple pieces together (like here and here).  Just don’t wear them all together, okay?  Wondering how you’d wear the denim kicks?  Pair them with a little black dress, with an all-white look, or go edgy by pairing them with leather.  My top picks?  Well the little dress at number 6 is currently on its way to me, and I just NEED that little spring jacket at number 10.  What are some of your faves?

Happy Monday, lovelies.  How was everyone’s weekend?  Today I’m spilling the beans on one of my favorite brands season after season, cabi.  Over the years I’ve worn quite a few cabi pieces, and it’s with good reason.  The entire collection is meant to be mixed, matched, and worn a ton of different ways, and the quality is just so good.  I’ve got favorite jackets and one particular blouse that I’ve worn for years now, and they still look brand new.  cabi is sold through a community of female stylists (over 3500 of them currently), and although I’m not a cabi stylist, this week I’ll get to join them at their bi-annual “The Scoop” in San Diego.  I’m so excited to check out their Spring 2016 collection at this year’s Scoop fashion show on Thursday and can’t wait to share it all with you guys on my Twitter and Instagram!  So tune in this Thursday at 4 pm (PST), and in the meantime, check out the video below for a sneak peek.  I’ve already got my eye on so. many. pieces.

Happy Friday, y’all!  I’m not gonna lie, this week was pretty sweet.  It totally made up for the fact that I had to un-Christmas our whole house (sad face), and here’s why.  On Wednesday, I was a lucky duck who got to get glammed up and attend the People’s Choice Awards with Walgreens and P&G.  Whaaat?  I know.  Cuckoo Ca-choo.  Along with my girl Kathleen, I headed to LA and got an up close and personal view of the red carpet.  I mean, UP CLOSE.  (Peep my Twitter account for a few snaps.)  The fashions were so close I could have touched them.  (Although there was a certain security guard eyeing me, so I refrained.)  The gowns are always amazing, but equally look-worthy were the hairstyles.  And maybe I should include the small fact that this year was an absolute downpour.  Rain.  In LA, people!  The red carpet was tented, but that can’t stop the damp air so the hairstyles that made it to the red carpet still looking sleek?  Props to you, girl.

One of my favorite red carpet gals showed up in a modern-meets classic jumpsuit and the perfect messy topknot to match, so obviously I was like, “I must do this.”  I’ve never been the “hair up” type of girl.  My hair is beyond thin so it never really stays, but recently I learned a little trick.  Ready for it?  Spray your bobby pins with hairspray first.  It gives them a little grip, and I swear, it works.  My current go-to is Pantene’s Air Spray which doesn’t weigh down my baby hair but keeps it sleek and under control.  (Seriously, it’s amazing.  Grab it on your next trip to Walgreens.)  I literally just twisted my hair (slightly half-effort) into a bun and used (hair-sprayed) bobby pins to secure sections.  Pull out random pieces around the face, and add a bit more hairspray – voila!  Suddenly, maybe I’m a “hair up” girl, ya know?  Who were some of your favorites from the People’s Choice Awards red carpet?  And more importantly, happy weekend, party people!
