Happy Presidents’ Day, friends!  Who’s got the day off today?  The husband is working, so I’m using the day to catch up on emails, organize my office, and clean this house.  Annnd spend a little time outside with the pup because the weather here is beautiful – chilly and windy by SoCal standards but sunny and so, so pretty.  I’ve currently got the windows open listening to the breeze, and I’m not complaining.

And guess who’s back with a new blog post finally.  That’s right, this slacker.  It’s no secret around here that jumpsuits are my jam (I even wore one for engagement pictures a couple of years ago), and I’m thinking that this one will be my fave of the spring.  It’s super easy to dress up or down and can be worn day to night.  (Metallic heels above, studded sandals below – easy peasy.)

And where I scored this little jumper is the best part.  Local gals, are you familiar with Anthill shopNplay?  It’s the newish shop attached to Eat Chow (a serious local favorite of mine) on Newport Blvd, and if you like clothing, shoes, accessories, baby and children’s clothes, party supplies, and novelty gifts, then you’re gonna need to check it out.  (Seriously, they have everything.)

Because of the name and I guess because Anthill replaced what used to be a baby store, I kind of just assumed that it was filled with baby and kids’ things.  And it is downstairs.  (We’re talking, really really cute baby and kids’ things.)  But upstairs, there’s a HUGE selection of women’s clothing, shoes, accessories, vintage finds, you name it from affordable brands as well as lust-worthy designers.  The selection of straw handbags and beach bags on the way upstairs was more than I could handle with upcoming trips to Palm Springs and Cabo on the horizon.  And don’t even get me started on the towers of beaded bracelets spread around.

Their website is still a bit in the works, but if you’re local, then I can’t recommend this little shop more for things that you just might not find anywhere else.  Trust me – I’ve searched and searched for this jumpsuit online, and it just isn’t there.  And sometimes, that’s just plain refreshing.  As is a laidback Monday to start the week.  Hope everyone has a great week ahead!

xoxo

Jumpsuit at New York Fashion Week

So what do you wear on your very last day in New York for Fashion Week when you’ve pretty much exhausted your options and your feet are just not havin’ it anymore?  (My brain wasn’t really havin’ it anymore either, but I’m sure that’s a topic for another day.)  You pull out that favorite jumpsuit that feels just like PJ’s and the mules that are definitely the most comfy heels ever.  It seriously saddens me that these mules are sold out everywhere because I would for sure recommend them to every person I meet.  That might be weird though, so instead I’m just linking a couple of similar pairs below.  And then there’s the jumpsuit.  I’ve been a fan of Ripley Rader jumpsuits forever I think and really tend to amp up my obsession around the holidays.  (I also took my engagement photos in one of them.)  This time I’m trading in the classic wide leg style for the tapered leg and love that this one can so easily be dressed up or down.  It’s perfect with my favorite blazer of the moment and aforementioned mules for schlepping around New York, but it’s also so tempting to throw it on with an easy pair of sandals for hanging around the house.  And that’s exactly what I intend to do this weekend: hang out without a plan in sight.  Who’s with me?!

xoxo

P.S. – Stay tuned next week for a couple more looks from #NYFW and a recap of my fun night at Style Week OC!

Last week I ran into Target for one thing.  You already know how this story ends, but I’ll tell it to you anyway.  So I run in for cough syrup only, and I’m telling you, totally on its own my cart just started navigating me towards the clothing.  I have no idea how these things happen, it’s just science, people.  Yada, yada, a few thousand things in my cart later, I’m walking out with a big smile because I’d just found the perfect summer jumpsuit.  It’s super lightweight and breezy (I bought a size up so that it would be a little roomy in the heat), and I love the little keyhole detailing in front.  The styling possibilities are seriously endless with this one – heels, flat sandals, espadrilles, wedges…I tried ’em all, and they all work.  Annnnnd, it’s under thirty bucks.  I’d say that’s a super successful trip to Target, had I remembered the cough syrup.

Holiday Jumpsuit

It’s no secret around here that I LOVE a good jumpsuit, and that’s especially true around the holidays.  Nothing makes a party statement quite like a jumpsuit, and Ripley Rader makes the best ones around.  (I mean, this sequin one?  I die.)  I own three of her designs, but this long-sleeved burgundy version just screams Christmas to me.  It’s as comfortable as pajamas and can be worn with the neckline as plunging as you’d like.  Paired with statement silver heels and the most delicate little clutch, it’s holiday party perfection.  Hope everyone has the best start to this week!

How was everyone’s weekend?  Besides the major heatwave around here, our weekend was plan-free and pretty perfect.  Sometimes it’s so nice to just have no plans.  Today’s look is the one that I wore to the RewardStyle party during New York Fashion Week, and it was definitely a choice that I didn’t regret.  This jumpsuit and vest combo still looked pretty fresh after wearing it all day, and the shoes are so comfortable.  (I had brought flats with me for the day but actually never needed to put them on.)  Per the usual, I’m loving all things 70s inspired for fall, so this look definitely did the trick.  Stay tuned for more #NYFW photos coming to the blog soon!

Yesterday was another whirlwind here in New York, but once again, it was exciting and crazy fun.  I started off my day with the Tommy Hilfiger show and actually got to go backstage and see how the models were being prepped with hair and makeup.  The show itself did not disappoint, and I find myself suddenly drawn to plaid.  Lots and lots of ski resort worthy plaid.  I then had brunch and gab time with one of my best friends from high school before heading off to the Katya Leonovich show.  Cold and pretty pooped, I called it an early night and headed back to my hotel for room service and TV in bed, something you can only do in a hotel room.

My look for the day consisted of a favorite Ripley Rader jumpsuit (made warmer with fleece-lined tights underneath) and a new studded jacket from H&M that I love.  Gold jewelry (including two new rings from Big Drop NYC) and my go-to fur coat were the finishing touches.  Feeling rested and ready for the day ahead, it’s off to more Fashion Week craziness for me.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Keeping It Casual: A Few Recent Looks

Casual summer style: Scoop tank, Free People shorts, Welden handbag, Jessica Simpson sandals | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Scoop sweater tankFree People shorts (also here);  Welden handbagJessica Simpson sandalssimilar bracelets and rings

While California is still pretty shut down right now, I’ve finally made it past the “everyday sweatpants” phase I was in because, well, the weather got warm.  Full disclosure, you can still find me in workout gear or these Gap sets that I swear by (sweatshirt here and shorts here – both on sale) a TON, but these days I’m mixing in some easy basics and fun accessories to at least pretend like I tried, ya know?

Here are a few casual staples that have been in heavy rotation lately:

The under $10 Walmart t-shirt dress (I bought a medium and had it hemmed an inch or two)

The denim shorts I own in 3 washes

These $20 henley tees that wash and wear SO well

This jumpsuit that feels like PJ’s (bonus – you can try before you buy with Amazon Wardrobe)

These bike shorts and these cross-back tanks (LOVE) for outdoor workouts

What are some pieces you guys are living in these days?

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ve probably seen that the husband and I are on a little long-awaited vacay.  We kicked things off with a weeklong trip to Idaho with his family and then hopped into a rental car for another week of road-tripping together.  I’ll be sharing a full recap of the trip – where we stayed, where we ate, what we did – once we’re back, but today I’m checking in with a few more looks to love from Walmart.

If you saw this post and then this one, you know that I’ve been finding ALL the summer things for the best prices from Walmart.  And today’s post is no exception.  Y’all, these jean shorts are seriously the $10 gift that just keeps on giving, and when I saw this little striped sweater in store during my trip home to Louisiana, I knew I needed it for the chilly nights ahead on our road trip.  (I sized up two sizes for a looser fit.)

The black jumpsuit (available in four colors) is perfect for the hot weather that’s just setting in at home in SoCal, and that knotted maxi dress is a summertime dream.  I searched and searched but sadly couldn’t get my hands on it in black before it sold out.  If your local store still has the black version, grab it…and every other color.

I’ll be checking out for a few more days, but if you’re interested in following along on our Idaho / Montana / Wyoming rambles, be sure to follow along on Instagram.  Hope everyone has a great rest of the week ahead!

A Few Favorite Summer Denim Pieces

Madewell chambray dress | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Madewell denim dress (also here);  Knot heels (40% off);  Bamboo clutchJulie Vos banglesRay-Ban sunglasses

In the daily routine during summers past, you could usually find me in some sort of jersey t-shirt dress or flowy floral number.  I was never really a “jorts” girl until a couple of summers ago and certainly didn’t own much summer denim.  And now I’m wondering, what in the world was I thinking?  Jean shorts are pretty much my main jam these days (these are my current faves, I sized up for reference), and I live for a good summer denim piece.

And I’m pretty sure it all started with this dress.  Pretty much the same dress as above but in a different denim.  Remember this one from last year?  GoodNESS, I wore that poor dress to death, and to be honest, I still do.  It’s just seriously comfortable, looks a bit more pulled together than that old t-shirt dress, and goes with just about every sneaker, slide, and sandal I own.  Plus, the fit and lightweight fabric are airy enough for even the hottest days.  So when I saw the same dress in a new chambray style this season, I obviously had to snag it.

Other denim favorites?  Still obsessed with this jumpsuit (that’s sadly sold out) and this figure-flattering romper that’s just been restocked in all sizes.  It’s under $100, super easy to pull off with wedges, slides, or sandals, and seriously slimming.  (Hashtag, yassss.)  I really can’t recommend it more, but if you’re looking for a little something else, check out a few more of my favorite summer denim finds below.  What are some of the unexpected pieces you guys are most excited about for summer?

A little over a week ago, Kathleen and I headed to Mexico for Jenn’s wedding in Cabo and stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica resort.  We had been planning the trip for what seemed like forever, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.  Last week I shared a little peek of the hotel, but today I’m so excited to share a few reasons to L-O-V-E this place.

The People.  This to me is far and beyond, without question, my numero uno favorite thing about staying at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica.  The people here were JUST so nice, and the level of service was pretty amazing.  We were lucky enough to stay in the new Towers at Pacifica which boast a 24-hour butler service.  Shoutout to our main man Manuel who seriously hooked it up – everything from scheduling dinner reservations, booking beach cabanas, arranging transportation, mixing up the prettiest cocktails (gotta do it for the ‘gram), and even showing up with duct tape when we had a little luggage snafu.  From the moment we arrived to the time we checked out, we were pretty blown away by the friendly faces and beyond helpful staff.

The Beach Cabanas.  This was by far our favorite daytime activity.  The pool looked really nice and had a swim-up bar, but when the ocean is just a few steps further, it has to win, right?  There is a flat option and swinging bed option, and no worries about walking over to the bar for your next drink.  Rene and Juan will be by periodically to make sure you never need to get up.  You have to book the cabanas ahead of time as they do tend to fill up, but for around $40 a day, it’s totally worth it.

The Location.  The location of the resort is really pretty great.  It’s located on the beach (hello, panoramic ocean view) but just minutes from the main part of town.  It was also a perfect fit for us as it ended up being about 15 minutes from the wedding venue.

The Food.  Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is an all-inclusive resort which means you can leave your wallet in the room and just bring yourself to breakfast. (And lunch and dinner actually.)  I’ve been to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico before, and the food was just pretty, meh.  This time around the food was definitely better (especially the breakfast – loved it).  I’d definitely recommend the nachos by the beach or pool, room service shrimp fajitas, and the Sunday brunch for sure.  Oh, and that whole all-inclusive thing, it also includes the booze.  Get yourself a piña colada and live your best life, girl.

The Spa.  Kathleen and I both enjoyed massages at the Armonia Spa on our first full day at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, and let me tell you, there’s just no better way to kick off a trip.  Breakfast, massage, and then an afternoon in a beach cabana?  Sign me up, sister.

The Views.  Is there anything better than waking up and looking out at the ocean?  In my book, probably not, but Pueblo Bonito Pacifica takes it a little further because everything around the hotel is just plain pretty.  From giant cacti to tons of bougainvillea, water features to daily hand-designed sand art, and even the buildings themselves, there’s just no shortage of pretty scenery.

Overall we had an amazing four nights in Mexico, and next time, I’m definitely dragging Eric back to Pueblo Bonito Pacifica with me.  If you’re looking for a laidback vacation filled with the friendliest people to help make your stay easy-peasy, then this is your spot.

xoxo
