Remember these wide leg pants that I first shared with you guys back in April?  I seriously love the exaggerated silhouette, the fun print, and the super comfy fit and have gotten so many compliments on them.  (Make sure you size down – I’m wearing a small for reference.) They were a favorite summertime statement, and today I’m styling them up for fall.

Heeled booties, a turtleneck tee, and my new favorite leather jacket easily take these pants into the next season.  This exact print is sadly sold out, but they’ve been restocked in six great color options.  I so love this orange pair styled with the chunky knit sweater – so pretty and cozy for fall.  And now I’m sitting here thinking…maybe I need a second color?

Affordable Fall Finds from Walmart

OK guys, so we’re officially mid-September, and besides a couple of brief looks (here and here), I’ve pretty much been avoiding fall fashion all together.  The heat around here had me taking a hard pass on sweaters, boots, and new jeans until recently when I discovered the mother-load of affordable fall cuteness at Walmart.  Not kidding, every single staple above – the jeans, booties, thermal, sweater, and bag – were all purchased in store or on Walmart.com.

The jeans have a great high rise, the cutest hem detail, and a price tag under $25, and the under $9 thermal tee is so soft I bought it in three colors.  (I sized up for a looser fit in the thermal, am wearing a 4 regular in the jeans.)  And then there are the booties.  If I didn’t know the price of these, I’d never be able to guess.  They look so much more expensive than they are, and added bonus, they’re seriously comfortable.  (The camel color sadly sold out super fast, but you can still snag them in a leopard print or black leather.  I’d also sign up for restock alerts in case your size is restocked.)

Below I’m styling the jeans and booties with a few other fall staples in hopes that I can conjure up some cooler weather.  Think it’ll work?  In the meantime, I’ll be pairing my thermal, booties, and short-sleeved sweater finds with my favorite denim shorts.  Take that, September heat wave.

In summers past here on the old blog, you could usually find posts and posts with my favorite maxi dresses of the season.  They were always my jam, a throw-on-and-go staple that I couldn’t live without, but this summer has been pretty maxi-free for me.  (Well, unless you count these maxi pants that are freakin’ awesome.)

I just hadn’t come across any maxi dresses I loved this year, until I saw this one.  It’s that perfect, ultra-soft, gauzy material, has a built-in slip and the prettiest embroidery, and was the perfect piece for a recent Palm Springs shopping trip.  It was HOT out (112 degrees to be exact), but this little gauzy number somehow allowed me to breathe.

It’s really more of a midi dress which is actually perfect for transitioning into cooler fall temps.  How cute would this be styled with a favorite denim jacket and little taupe booties?  There are a TON of adorable fall bootie options here, but I’m really loving these and these.  (And these if you want a lower-heeled version.)

Here’s hoping you’re staying cool, friends, and that some cooler fall temps are right around the corner.  (A girl can dream, right?)

Guys, call me crazy, but we’ve actually got a legitimate cool front this week in Southern California.  I know it’s not, like, real winter or anything, but we’ve been running our heater and using the heck out of our fireplace and I’m seriously loving it.  I’ve worn actual pants (orrrr sweat pants, let’s be honest) and sweaters almost every day this week.  It’s like a record or something.

Buuut this weekend the daytime high temps will be back up in the mid-70’s, so it’s back to that fake winter dressing.  And I don’t mind really because for me that means sweaters and bare legs, one of my favorite fake winter combos.  I love pairing a lightweight sweater with a little leather skirt like the one above, a fun suede skirt, faux leather shorts, or even denim shorts once early spring hits.

Throw on a pair of booties and call it a (comfy, slightly cozy) day.  And while we’re talking booties, I seriously can’t recommend these snake-print booties more.  Admittedly they were kind of intimidating at first, but I’ve since worn the crap out of them for two years in a row…and still going strong.  They’re super comfortable, and I promise, they go with way more in your closet than you might think, like a lace dress, black shift dress, or a fun t-shirt dress.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Exactly one week away from Christmas – y’all, how the heck did this happen?  I swear it was JUST Thanksgiving, and yet somehow, here we are.  Ready or not, my favorite holiday is coming, and although I may not have all of my gifts figured out yet, I know what I’ll be wearing.  (Well, hot weather permitting.)

I’ve chatted about these high rise skinnies before, but y’all, I swear – they really are the highest rise I’ve found that are still way comfortable.  Plus, they suck you in like a pair of Spanx.  And let’s face it, after alllll the holiday meals, sips, and treats, couldn’t we all use a little suck-in power?  I know I could.  They’re available in a ton of washes and are super easy to tuck into your favorite boots or booties.

So I’m crossing my fingers for a cool breeze in Southern California that just might let me wear this denimsweaterscarf combo, but just in case, I’ve got my backup plan ready right over here.  Annnnd then obviously as soon as it’s acceptable I’ll be curling up in my favorite holiday PJ’s because Christmas is for living your best life.

Hope everyone has a great week!

It’s officially summer in our house, and you can pretty much find my hot and bothered ass in cutoff denim shorts all day, everyday.  It’s no joke.  I realized recently that all of my favorite denim shorts (three pairs that I wear currently) are Free People.  I swear by the Shark Bite shorts (I now own them in both colors) and am now pretty obsessed with these “Irreplaceable Cutoffs” above.  I’d definitely recommend sizing up, but I love that these are soft and comfy with legs that are cut a bit wider.  These are seriously like a broken record for the summer.  And then into the fall with light sweaters and booties.  So basically most of the year here.  It’s fine, everyone has their uniform.  Hope everyone’s week is off to a sweet start!

Today I’m rejoining the real world after a few beautiful days traveling California’s coast with my family.  We spent two nights in Big Sur which is one of my favorite places in the world because you can disconnect and just enjoy the beauty around you.  We snapped these pictures on the way out to Pfeiffer Beach (which turned out to be WAY too cold and windy for us).  I pretty much lived in these Free People shorts and DV booties the entire trip, and I picked up this hat in our hotel gift shop.  A lightweight sweater (last seen here as a dress) was the perfect windy-day topper.  Overall it was an amazing trip, and I’ll be sharing a few more snaps tomorrow.  Stay tuned!

Floral and Leopard

Recently I booked my tickets for September’s Lucky FABB (Fashion and Beauty Bloggers) Conference in New York, and I’m already counting down the days.  Although I love the climate and pace of living in Southern California, New York City has always been one of my favorite places to visit, and the look above is exactly the kind of pieces I’ll be packing for a laidback day of shopping around the city.  Floral denim shorts and a lightweight silk tee will help beat the midday heat, while easy black booties are chic and comfortable enough for a full day of walking.  Finish with retro shades, stacked gold jewels and a fall-friendly, ponyhair leopard clutch for a sleek, mixed-prints look.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Indian Summer

After spending the past three nights in Palm Springs, I’m inspired by the free-spirited, bohemian feel of the desert. I love the unexpected pairing of a lightweight white dress with fringed suede booties.  Add a blush crossbody bag and Native-inspired jewelry for a pulled-together look that will have you seeing the world through rose-colored glasses.
