We kicked off 2017 by packing up our house and getting ready for a pretty easy remodel.  We were adding on a dining room and an office for Eric and changing out all of the existing exterior plaster for new.  We found an awesome rental house and thought we’d make ourselves at home there for about a month.  (The plaster changing meant we wouldn’t have exterior walls, so the house was just too cold to live in.)  You know what they say, the best laid plans…

Fast forward five months, and our sweet little remodel turned into an entirely different house.  We eliminated walls, vaulted ceilings, did an entire kitchen remodel, and changed just about every room in the house.  Over the next seven months, we added on a front patio with a fire pit that we love, completely reworked the backyard to include a built-in BBQ and jacuzzi area, and finally switched out the dirt yard and port-o-potty out front for actual grass and landscaping.  (Hashtag, that construction life.)  And I swear, more photos of the home are coming soon.

In May after moving back into our house, we welcomed our sweet pup Louise, and although girlfriend certainly put me through it for a couple of months, she’s now the sweetest little member of our family.  (And as you can probably tell from the photos above, my furry sidekick loves a good photo opp.)

Over the summer we were super fortunate to purchase a house in Palm Springs (more photos here) and worked with a handful of amazing companies to furnish, decorate, and make it a home.  We’ve loved every single day we’ve gotten to spend there, loved ringing in the new year there, and can’t wait to spend more time in the desert this year.

Over the past year, I’ve gotten to enjoy some amazing travels – both near and far – from a crazy nice girls’ getaway to Playa de La Paz in Mexico to my dream long weekend in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with my love and a couple of friends.  (More on that Jackson trip, still to come.)  This year, I got to work with some amazing brands, interview Reese Witherspoon (even if I did stumble all over my words like a starstruck idiot), celebrate one whole year of marriage, and keep this little blog going, doing exactly what I love doing.

Year after year, I’m so very fortunate that you guys keep reading and following along on my journey.  I’m so thankful for all the comments, likes, emails, in-person hello’s and so very thankful for this little community.  There are already some fun things in the works for 2018, so I certainly hope that you’ll keep following along!  Here’s hoping everyone has the best year ahead!

xoxo

Crop Tops for Summer? Give It a Whirl.

If there’s one thing I love most in the summer style department, it’s probably a good two-piece set.  I’m still loving this lightweight set from a few weeks ago, and I’m not gonna lie, I wish this little set was still hanging in my closet.  (Admittedly, the skirt got a smidge too short, thumbs down emoji.)

But in my two-piece pursuit over the years, I always nixed any option that involved a crop top.  Let’s be real, busty gals tend to have a hard time in the crop top department.  In a rare surprise though, this one from Wayf actually fits, so I figured I’d give it a whirl.  I first took it for a spin in Mexico paired with a full midi skirt, but today I’m wearing the cropped, high-waist pants that were made to match.

While I loved the look, I was feeling a bit naked on top, so cropped little denim shirt to the rescue.  Also, if you’re looking for a perfect lightweight denim shirt for summer, this one is it.  Also also, I got this little black clutch thinking that it would come in handy for a few summer events, but I have seriously carried the heck out of it.  It really does go with so many of my outfits lately.

Anywho, what did I learn today?  That sometimes it’s A-OK to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new.  Crop tops?  For summer?  Groundbreaking.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

New Love: Amour Vert

When I really start to think about it, there are probably about a thousand reasons why I love where we live.  Obviously, living a couple of blocks from the beach is a crazy perk that I never really expected in my life and ranks somewhere around number one.  Getting my exercise along the Pacific Ocean is something that never gets old.  Other favorites would be the beautiful SoCal weather, palm trees everywhere, and Massimo’s Pizza a neighborhood away.  Seriously, I could always go for a slice, and this place is dee-lish.

I recently realized yet another reason I love this place though.  We seriously have some of the cutest little shops and boutiques around, and great new stores are popping up all the time.  It’s greaaat for my wardrobe, not so much for my wallet.  Sometime around Christmas I seriously fell for the shops and restaurants and overall cuteness at Lido Marina Village, and recently, I found a new favorite, favorite shop there.

Holy moly, have you guys been into Amour Vert?  Well if you haven’t, then this is a PSA to get your butt into that store.  It’s seriously the cutest.  The name means “green love” and they’re devoted to creating beautiful, sustainable fashion using American manufacturing, non-toxic dyes, and a zero waste mentality.  For every tee sold, Amour Vert plants a tree, and so far, they’ve planted over 130,000 of them.  Not bad, right?  Oh, and those tees?  The softest, comfiest, best tees that you’ll want to live in.

Besides the beyond yummy tees and this denim dress that I’ve just added to my cart, I love love all of Amour Vert’s silk pieces.  The fabric is a bit thicker than the average Joe’s silk which means that when I packed this dress recently for a trip to Palm Springs, it didn’t arrive like a crumpled, wrinkled mess.  Always a win in my book.  If you live in the Orange County area, then GO to this store, and if you don’t, allow me to direct you right over here to get your online shop on.  Have a great rest of your week, y’all!

By now I’ve shared favorite cabi pieces with you guys countless times over the years, and it’s for good reason: I freaking love this brand.  It’s seriously an amazing company for women, run by women, supporting women, and what’s better than that?  Every person I’ve met that is involved with the brand genuinely loves it.  Plus, the collections are just really cute.  Every single piece is so well-made and thought-out with some why didn’t I think of that details.  The fabrics are always really great quality, and as an added bonus, most of the pieces travel really well.  (As in, easy to pack and pretty wrinkle-free.  Winner, winner.)

One of the questions that I get the most from you guys when I post something cabi is, How can I order that?  So here’s a little reminder of how this whole things works.  cabi is sold through independent Stylists, and no, I’m not one of them.  (I’m telling you, I just really love wearing cabi.)  If you’re interested in finding a Stylist in your area, just head over here.  They’ll get you in contact with the gal in your town that can help you get your hands on the latest and greatest, easy peasy.

The Spring 2017 collection has been so dang cute, and on May 4th, the New Arrivals Two collection is hitting the site.  And it is SO good.  The little lace shorts and striped dress above were standout favorites for me, but I really could’ve picked out five more pieces.  And now for the best news.  Whether you’re a longtime cabi fan or a newbie who’d like to get her hands on the line, today I’ve got a giveaway for you.

Follow the prompts below to enter to win a head-to-toe look of your choice, courtesy of cabi.  Even better?  I’ll be choosing five (5!) winners on Thursday, April 27th, so don’t miss out!  Good luck, friends!

Vacation Style and the Perfect Summer Shoes (Plus a Giveaway)

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Johnston & Murphy. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hello and happy Tuesday from Playa de La Paz, y’all!  Last week’s trip came at the perfect time because (besides getting far, far away from our construction project home) I finally got to break in some of the new spring and summer pieces that I’d been staring at in my closet.  A flowy midi skirt and my first ever crop top (that actually fits!) were just made for a vacay.  (As were hats with everything to cover the wind-blown mane.)

And then there are the shoes.  These lace-up cork heels from Johnston & Murphy are the perfect summer update on the staple style from fall, and they’re the only heels I brought with me to Mexico.  While packing, I really couldn’t think of any other pair that I might want with me.  In the perfect neutral shade, they’ll seriously go with everything this summer, and as an added bonus, they’re SUPER comfortable.  I’m imagining these with every dress, skirt, and blouse in my summer arsenal and can’t wait to add them to the shoe shelf in our new and improved home.  Is that crazy?  Call me crazy, I don’t care.  Just be prepared to see these on serious repeat in the coming months.
