Cruising With Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean Cruise - 1 (18)OK, y’all, I’m a little overdue on this one, but today I’m so excited to share a few photos and thoughts from our cruise to Bermuda on the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas.  If you were following along on Snapchat or Instagram during the cruise, you already know my general thoughts on it, and (*spoiler alert*) I thought it was top notch.  I had never been on a cruise before, and I’m not gonna lie – friends and family had warned me that the cruise life may not be my favorite based on tiny rooms, crowded dining halls, and cheesy activities.  I don’t know if it’s because we were on one of the newest and largest boats out there, but boy were they wrong.  Turns out, cruise life is my best life!

My first impression of the Anthem of the Seas: holy schmoly, this thing is huge.  I’m not even sure how many restaurants, bars, and shops were on that thing, but there are enough to eat somewhere new for every meal of the 5-day trip.  And when I saw my “tiny room”, I was beyond pleasantly surprised.  I mean, this thing was pretty spacious in my opinion, complete with two closets (with plenty of hangers – bonus), a queen-sized bed, couch, vanity area with a lighted mirror, and a balcony that would be plenty big enough for two.  There were three pools on the boat, a rock-climbing wall, a surf simulator, bumper cars, and tons (I mean tons) of lounge chairs looking out over the ocean, which was totally more my speed.  #CruiseLife

The nighttime activities to me were the best part, and lucky for me, Kathleen was paying attention to the daily itinerary that I somehow failed to read every day.  Our first night was spent at Groovy Town, a 70s-themed dance party where a few cruise-happy party goers really got the week started.  (Lady with several light-up rings in your mouth, I’m looking at you.)  The rest of the week included a Journey cover band (that was seriously dead-on), a rap music dance party or two, and my personal favorite, the silent dance party.  Have you guys heard of this genius concept?  Everyone in the room has their own headphones with two different stations that are controlled by two different DJ’s in the room.  You can switch channels as you please and, based on the colored lights on your headphones, see who else in the room is jamming out to the same tunes.  The best part though is when you remove your headphones and see a room full of grown adults dancing like wild animals to silence.  So golden.  When I’m having a rough day, I’ll always try and remember the sweet little lady belting out Adele like an American Idol audition.  You do you, boo.  Overall, it was an amazing five days thanks to Royal Caribbean, and I totally could have cruised on for, like, a couple more weeks at least.  (I think.)  And if there’s a little cruise life coming up in your future, here are a couple of tips from this newbie cruise lover:

  1. Get the beverage package.  It’s totally worth it, and not just for the booze.  (Although let’s be honest, wine time is anytime when you’re cruising in the middle of nowhere.)  With the top beverage package, you can get specialty coffees, smoothies and green juices, and any soda your heart desires.
  2. Be prepared ahead of time for a little motion sickness.  Luckily I was unaffected by the movement of the boat (and actually thought that it rocked me to sleep perfectly at night), but other members of our group weren’t so lucky.  Plan ahead with preventative meds like the behind-the-ear patches that are available with a prescription.
  3. Pay attention to the daily itinerary.  Thankfully Kathleen did, so she let us know about the karaoke night that we loved and the silent dance party.  These are nights you definitely don’t want to miss.
  4. Make some friends!  One day when everyone else in my group had emails and work to catch up on, I played hooky and roamed downstairs by myself for a bit.  I totally met a friend (hey, Mona!) and then got to give input on a New Jersey couple playfully arguing over who was more “tanked” the night before.  (For the record, one of them “fell up the stairs.”)
  5. Have a little fun with it!  Sure, a 70s dance party may not be your thing, and Journey might not be your favorite band.  But if you go in with an open mind and let loose a little, your trip will be worth it times 1,000.  Promise!

Happy Friday, friends!  Who’s ready for the weekend?  I’m not gonna lie, I’m way excited.  Today I’m headed off to the East Coast, and tomorrow morning I’ll be hopping on a Royal Caribbean cruise to BERMUDAAA!  I’m super excited because (a) I’ve never been on a cruise before so why not start with Bermuda and (b) I’m cruising with a few of my favorite gals: Kathleen, Jenn, Krystal, and Courtney.  Sometimes I don’t know how I got so lucky in this life, but I’m thankful as all get-out and feeling like the luckiest duck around.  So if you’re following along on Instagram (and I hope you are!), then stay tuned for a few snaps from the high seas.  (And full disclosure, I have no idea what the high seas are, it just sounded right.)  Also, I’m rounding up a few photos from Instagram lately and linking the details exactly above.  Because when it comes to making it easy to shop the look, I’m here for you, girl.  Happy, Happy, Happiest weekend, y’all!

They’re about as classic and iconic as “florals for spring”, but somehow way chicer when done right.  I’m talking about a good stripe, and the good ones are literally everywhere right now.  Like, taunting me, basically.  I mean, look at that caped jumpsuit at #13 – that thing was just made for me.  And how adorable is the mini dress at #10?  I would actually wear a strapless bra for that dress, which is basically the biggest commitment I can actually make.  Pair that little number with the clutch at #8 for a little stripe on stripe action, and I’m one happy gal.  Summer is officially around the corner, y’all!

Wednesday already?  Time flies when you have the flu.  Seriously.  Made it home from our wedding with a little parting gift called influenza.  But that’s fine.  It’s actually a nice little detox after New Orleans, so bring it on, flu.  Anywho, back ‘atcha today with one last pair of spring kicks from Payless, and as promised, they’re so good.  A great pair of neutral wedges will always get their fair share of wear in the spring, and these are super comfy to boot.  Paired with favorite white boyfriends, a striped tee, and an army jacket (from a few seasons ago, can’t get enough), you’ve got a pulled-together look that requires zero brain skills.  Because that’s just about as much as I can muster this week.  Hope everyone else is having a great (flu-free) week!

Well what do you know, Monday again.  How was everyone’s weekend?  Mine was admittedly pretty perfect.  On Saturday my California family and friends threw me the most beautiful bridal shower.  Seriously, so pretty and so much fun.  The highlight of the day was definitely when I scanned the room and noticed that my mom had surprised me by flying in for the weekend.  I knew she was bummed to be missing my shower, and I have my future mother-in-law to thank for helping to set up the whole surprise.  The party was happy hour themed, and they pretty much hit my ideal theme right on the head: apps, girl talk, and jalapeno margs.  Helloooo, perfect afternoon.  My one regret of the weekend is that we had so much fun gabbing away that pretty much NO ONE at the party has any pictures to show for it.  Twenty-five iPhones in the room and about four photos at the end.  #RookieMistake  But it’s the memories that count, right?  Photos of my shower look will be coming to the blog soon, though.

The weather around here lately has been so springy and warm, but this weekend we had a couple of cooler nights.  Little knit dresses like this one and my favorite spring vest have become my go-to transitional pieces for now.  Topping everything off with booties and hat hair and calling it a day.  Here’s to more spring weather ahead, but let’s be honest, the in-between around here is not so bad.  Happy Leap Day, everyone!

Hooray, Hurrah, it’s Friday, people!  Let your crazy hair down, and take your bra off because it’s time to relax.  There’s pretty much no better relaxation to me than getting my hair done, and this week I did just that.  I’m in a weird, in-between phase (between extensions, that is) with my toddler mane, so there’s that.  But lucky me, my go-to hair gal for a blonde refresh Tera just opened up her brand spankin’ new salon TReSs Apothecary in the Lido Marina.  (This area, once it’s finally built and open, will be my favorite place in the world, I already know.  SO many fun shops and restaurants coming!)  Tera’s space is minimal but oh-so-cozy and sits right on the water.  Because who doesn’t want to look out into the marina while they’re getting coiffed?  *Insert hand raise emoji.  Plus you’ll want to buy every product in the joint.  I mean, I’m trying to move in.  And about this look.  I recently stopped into Joie and went a little bananas over their sale section.  The deals, guys, the deals.  I made it out with this faux layered sweater top (because actual layers get messy) and a hat for my in-between mane before this blazer almost pulled me back for more.  But I made it out.  And I’m stoked for the weekend ahead.  Eric and I will be enjoying a little stay-cay in Laguna Beach at The Pacific Edge Hotel, and I’m ready to…what’s that magic word?  Relax.  Hope everyone has the best weekend!

Happy New Year, y’all!  How’s everyone feeling?  Nothing that a little Bloody Mary can’t fix, I’m sure.  We spent our New Year’s Eve in a cabin in the mountains where we’ve spent several before, and it’s pretty much the best.  No dressing up and no making plans.  Don’t we do that enough during the year?  No crowded bars and no expensive event tickets to buy.  You just bundle up in every Southern California layer that you own, grab takeout Chinese food, and hang out by a fire with friends.  It’s cozy, and I dig it.  So here we are, in 2016.  And it seems that my love of flares didn’t get left behind in 2015.  And neither did my denim on denim habit.  So I’m going with it.  I think that’s what you’re supposed to do in 2016, right?  Hope everyone’s January is off to a great start!

If there’s one thing I can’t get enough of, it’s fringe and more fringe. You can imagine my excitement when I found these fun fringed kicks at Payless recently for under $20. Seriously. So excited that I actually bought them in black too. I couldn’t decide which color I wanted, so Kathleen had to smack some sense in me. “Umm, they’re $15. Get both, #YOLO!” Done and done. I picked these up in-store and scooped up the black version online. They’re crazy comfortable and feel so much more expensive than they actually are. Pair them with a skirt, with skinnies, with a sweater dress… The outfit possibilities are, like, endless. Check out Payless on Pinterest for more styles.

Remember those Sofft wedges that I wore all day, everyday, all summer long?  (I really couldn’t help myself.  They go with EVERYTHING and are just so comfortable.)  Well folks, it’s a new season, and I’ve got a new Sofft obsession of the moment.  And since it’s September, I’m of course talking about booties.  Although I pretty much wear booties all year long, fall is when I really kick my bootie-loving rear into overdrive, and these are comfy with a capital C.  And with a million cute black ankle boot options out there these days, why not go with the cute pair that puts an airy little pep in your step?  Let’s breeze into fall, people.  (Plus, stay tuned on Instagram to see these little booties in NYC action this week.  I’m off in the morning!)
