Ahhh, Monday, we meet again.  It’s the start of a busy but exciting week around here, and it’s a much needed reminder to me that sometimes I just need to trust the road that I’m on.  The blogging world can be such an amazing, supportive community, but it can also create a bit of unwanted competitiveness.  From time to time I struggle with comparing myself and my blog to others, wishing I could do this better or that, grow my social media more quickly, connect with this brand or that one, and so on.  I hate that I do it, but I do.  Eric is constantly reminding me to slow down and focus on how far this little blog has come.  And then there’s my mom.  Well I swear sometimes she just knows.  (That’s what moms do I guess.)  She sent along another gem from Max Lucado last week that was exactly what I needed, and I just have to share.

A little boy named Adam wanted to be like his friend Bobby.  Adam loved the way Bobby walked and talked.  Bobby, however, wanted to be like Charlie.  Something about Charlie’s stride and accent intrigued him.  Charlie, on the other hand, was impressed with Danny.  Charlie wanted to look and sound like Danny.  Danny, of all things, had a hero as well: Adam. He wanted to be just like Adam.
So Adam was imitating Bobby, who was imitating Charlie, who was imitating Danny, who was imitating Adam.
Turns out, all Adam had to do was be himself.
Stay in your own lane.  Run your own race.  Nothing good happens when you compare and compete.  God does not judge you according to the talents of others.  He judges you according to yours.  His yardstick for measuring faithfulness is how faithful you are with your own gifts.  You are not responsible for the nature of your gift.  But you are responsible for how you use it. – Max Lucado

Pretty good, right?  So here’s to a great week ahead and a little more focus on staying in my own lane.  Cheers, y’all.

Best Sweater Tunic and a New Favorite Way to Layer

Well sure, a tunic-y sweater like this one was probably meant to be worn with skinny jeans or leggings or as a dress by a seriously petite gal, but it’s 2017 dammit, and there’s just no rule against wearing it over your favorite little body-con dress.  (Same dress from this post, BTW.)  How else are you supposed to wear said body-con dress post-holidays and pre-cleanse?  (More about the cleanse coming later, and if you saw my Instagram story last night, don’t judge.  I totally cheated for my last dinner of the cleanse because I committed to going to the opening of Bonchon OC last night with the husband, and who am I to cancel date night?  It’s bad form.  That last Juice Served Here bowl shall make the best lunch tomorrow.  Anywho…)

If your weather happens to be tightrope-walking winter and spring like ours is currently with chilly mornings and nights and pretty hot afternoons, then you just toss that favorite chunky knit over a dress, add your favorite ankle booties, and get on with your day.  Grab a green juice and some fried chicken while you’re at it because life’s about balance, y’all.  That’s what I’m telling myself, anyways.  Hope everyone is having a great week and hope you guys are following along on Instagram as I’m heading to San Diego for #cabiScoop today.  Head over to my Instagram and Instagram story for sneak peeks!

Why is it when I have the most work to do, I find myself doing the MOST online shopping?  Well, I’m sure that’s not a hard one to figure out: procrastination at its finest, y’all.  But also, part of my job?  Sure, we’ll go with that.  The new arrivals are seriously EVERYWHERE, and so many of them are just staring at me, like, buy me.  So today I’m rounding up 13 pieces that are currently on my radar.  I scooped up these velvet beauties this week, and now I’m like, do I need the leather ones at number six too?  Maybe?  Probably.  The fur-embellished sneakers and patchwork jeans (same brand as these that I wear all the time) are next on my list as well as a pair of metallic sneakers for spring.  Also, loving this big tote for any upcoming travel plans – totes made from this material always have the most comfortable padded straps.  I need new sunglasses like I need a hole in my head, but somehow the perfectly mirrored pair under $20 just gets me every time – add ’em to the collection, hoarder.  So basically the list goes on and on, but hey, that’s fashion, right?  What pieces are you guys looking to add to your wardrobe this month?

How To Wear Your Favorite Spring Dress Now

What do you do when you’ve got a little chiffon dress just calling your name but it’s, ya know, winter?  Grab your favorite turtleneck and layer up, friends.  I’ve pretty much worn this little layering turtleneck on repeat this fall and winter, and I’ve just found a super similar version that’s under $40 and available in six colors.  I’m thinking I may need to scoop up the ivory version STAT.  (I also just Googled what the letters in STAT stand for.  Turns out, nothing – not an acronym.)  Anywho, just layer the dress that you’re trying to wear over a thin turtleneck, and add a little outerwear.  A shearling vest is the perfect way to stay warm, and there are a ton of great options here.  (Bonus points for any clothing that feels like an oversized teddy bear.)  Over-the-knee boots add the perfect finishing touch because they’re, like, almost pants, right?  I’m obsessed with this grey pair.  Once the temperatures warm up for spring, I can’t wait to break out this dress again with sandals or wedges, and if you love it like I do, then you’re in luck.  It’s currently 25% off, just in time to wear it now and later into Spring.  Versatile pieces that hop from season to season?  Happy layering, friends!

Well, well, well, friends, our New Year’s Eve plans have officially been set, and it’s currently looking like 100% chance of snow.  If you’re going to spend your New Year’s countdown in the mountains in a tiny little cabin surrounded by mostly guy friends and gourmet McDonald’s to eat, then it helps if it’s snowing.  I’m just kidding, there’s actually a really bomb Chinese food hole-in-the-wall for dinner.  The McDonald’s is for emergency hunger only.  Anywho, I’ve been taking a little inventory here of all things cozy to pack for the trip, and I’ve decided that every piece above has made the cut.  I mean, fur-lined sneakers that feel like slippers but are totally acceptable outside of the house?  Count me in, friend.  I’ll wear these with skinnies, leggings, and (let’s face it) probably pajamas while keeping cozy in the cold.  And the best part?  They’re under $40, along with a slew of other great boots, sneakers, and slippers at Payless right now.  Annnnd there are a bunch of heel options if you’re looking to get fancy to ring in the new year.  (How GOOD are these mules?)  You know, if getting fancy is your thing.  But nope, not over here.  I’ll be cozied up next to a fire with some of my favorite people.  Hope you guys have a great NYE weekend ahead!

Sooo by now I think I’ve worn this little cabi turtleneck 4,795 times, and I’m not stopping anytime soon.  It literally goes under everything.  Like this dress.  And this one.  And this little satin and lace cami in today’s post that I loved so much I bought it in two more colors.  Y’all, it’s currently under $10, so go ahead and treat yo’self.  I spent a couple of days bumming that we didn’t have a Christmas tree this year (#constructionproblems), but then I was like, cheer up, idiot, there are literally Christmas trees ALL around you.  And the prettiest place around to take in a little Christmas cheer just might be Lido Marina Village.  This place is seriously the cutest – I can’t stay away.  It’s also the perfect place to stock up on gifts, so that’s productive, right?  Hope everyone has an amazing weekend ahead!

If I’m being honest, I haven’t actually needed a New Year’s Eve dress in quite a few years.  Over the last five or six years, we’ve always rung in the New Year at Eric’s family’s cabin in the mountains with friends, so the typical dress code usually involves a few hundred of your warmest layers and anything dressier than a basic sweater just seems out of place.  It’s a pretty small mountain town, but we love to spend New Year’s Eve there by a fire, especially during the years that it snows.  But whether I need a New Year’s Eve dress of not, I always seem to have one just in case.  I mean, you never know when plans could change last minute and you gotta deck yourself out in sequins.  Maybe not, but I’m ready for whatever.  This dress came along with me on a recent trip to Las Vegas, and now that the holidays are upon us, I just can’t help but think that it was made for New Year’s Eve.  The roomy cut is actually really comfortable, and I love the 3/4 length sleeves so much.  It doesn’t beg for many extras – just add a simple heel and a fun little clutch, and you’re good to go.  Trust me guys, I KNOW this one is pretty pricey (certain sizes on sale here), so I’m rounding up a few more Parker masterpieces below that I’ve found on sale.  Seriously this one that’s under $100 right now?  So killer.  Parker just gets it right every. single. time.

If there’s a bomber jacket that’s meant for the holidays, it’s obviously a sequin bomber jacket.  And while I’m now convinced that every party-goer and sequin-loving gal needs one of these babies in her holiday arsenal (and pretty sure I need two or three of them), it’s probably not something you really wanna break the bank on.  After all there’s like, gifts and trees and wreaths and eggnog and all of the things to buy this time of year.  So today I’m sharing my favorite, favorite sequin bomber of the season (above) that’s right around $50 and six additional options to consider.  I mean, that little number four below – she’s on sale and oh so good.  Extra heart eyes for the oversized sleeves on that one.  (And on second thought, that’s it, I’m ordering.)  Wear these over a little black dress, with your favorite leather leggings, or with jeans and the WhoWhatWear for Target camisole that you accidentally just ordered in three additional colors.  (It really is a pretty great layering piece, y’all.)  Whatever you do, just have a little fun with it because ’tis the season and ho, ho, ho and pass me the pie.  Happy December, guys!

Oh!  And one last thing.  As a little thank you for all your support and love throughout the year, I’m teaming up with a few fellow bloggers to give one lucky reader a $500 Visa gift card, just in time for the holidays.  Follow the directions below to enter, and good luck!

Just another day over here in my favorite leggings ever.  (Seriously, if you haven’t checked these out yet, get on it, girl.)  But I’ve gushed about these before, so today’s post is not about the leggings, but what you’ll usually find me wearing with them.  And well, there’s nothing I love more with leggings than an easy tee and a long knit cardigan.  I’ve got a stack of boyfriend cardigans in my arsenal, and they’re the first things I grab for when it gets cold.  And while a lush, expensive version may seem like the bee’s knees, you don’t need to spend a bunch to get a super-soft cardigan that you’ll wear with everything.  So browse around below for fifteen versions that are under $100, or go for the one that I’m wearing above for right around $29.  Steal of a deal, kids.

Also, if you’re looking for a crazy comfortable pair of black booties, these are pretty great.  They’ll definitely be accompanying me this weekend for a little one-night getaway with the husband.  Where to?  I have no idea…yet.  It’s my 30th birthday tomorrow, and Eric’s planned a little surprise and I’ve yet to break the case.  Then on Sunday, we’re headed to the Sip’n’Shuck event at The Deck in Laguna Beach, and I’m so excited for it.  It’s their annual charity event with lots of oysters and small bites, tons of wines and beers to try, live music, and just lots of fun.  If you’re in the Orange County area, highly recommend making your way to Sip’n’Shuck – it’s SO much fun.  What fun plans do you guys have for the weekend ahead?
