Ahh, gifts for the guys.  I must admit that even on the rare year that I actually get a good head start on my holiday shopping, I tend to save the guys for last.  Occasionally I’ll come across something great for Eric or my dad, but in general, I just have more fun shopping for the girls.  (Maybe because it’s easier to throw in a little something for myself along the way?  Guilty.)

But this year I’m determined to change my ways and get a jumpstart on shopping for the boys.  This year’s list of potentials includes a flannel shirt or two, new sneaks, Eric’s favorite cologne, and Stance socks to replace a few pairs that have recently gone missing.  (Eric loves Stance socks and stocked up on them a couple of years ago.  Unfortunately these days there is someone in the house who loves them just as much as he does – a guilty-looking puppy named Louise.)

Perhaps this is finally my year to be done, cool, calm and collected by December 23rd.  Maybe, but then what’s the fun in that?  Happy holiday shopping, friends.

A Little (Velvet) Something Extra

Levi’s jeanscabi velvet top (c/o);  Banana Republic jacket (c/o) – similar version hereHenri Bendel handbag (c/o);  Mari A. heels (c/o) – (similar here);  Quay sunglasses

Any country music fans out there?  My music taste is admittedly a little all over the place, but I’ll also admit that I’ve got big love for some country music and big BIG love for last night’s CMA Awards.  Did anyone else watch?  Gah, I love watching country performances because they’re such a good time, the artists actually SING, and everyone is just so sparkly.  Am I right?  I always watch country stars and think I could use a little more sparkle in my life.

And while daytime sequins and glitter aren’t always encouraged, I think the modern fall equivalent is velvet.  From the cutest polka-dotted burnout blouse (which JUST launched from cabi) to a sweet little pair of velvet heels (or maybe both at once), velvet just adds that little something extra to your look.

And add a sheen-y printed bomber on top?  Well, girlfriend, then you’re getting extra, extra.  Or maybe not, but you can still pretend.  It’s only Thursday, but I’ve got my sights set firmly on the weekend.  To be fair, we’ve got a Friday afternoon wedding in Palm Springs, so today’s sort of like a Friday.  And what better way to kick off my birthday weekend than by playing hooky on a Friday?

Hope everyone has an amazing Thursday and weekend ahead!

Boyfriend Jeans, Peplum Tees, and Mixed Prints

Blame it on the new pup, or blame it on a bit of “it’s almost summer” laziness, but I’ve probably spent a little more time than I’d like to admit lately in workout clothes.  While I have been trying to up my workout routine lately (and walk Weeze 4,759 miles a day to wear her out), sometimes you gotta ditch the stretch pants for some real pants.  I know, it’s a cruel, cruel world out there.

But if there’s one way to ease the real clothes pain, it’s boyfriend jeans and tees.  It’s simple and easy and comfy and forgiving, and with the right shoes and accessories, you won’t look like a slob kabob that just rolled out of bed.  Know what I mean?  This little peplum tee is the softest, and paired with denim shorts and some sort of ankle wrap sandals?  Ugh, the cutest.

I’m always a sucker for black and white stripes because it’s a print that plays so well with others.  This favorite Trina Turk bag and shoe combo has made a major comeback out of my closet lately, and I’m not made about it one bit.  With June Gloom in full force around here, a jacket is always necessary, so this little summer bomber from Sanctuary comes in handy big time.  Plus, I figured what’s one more print to add to the mix?  The more the merrier…well sometimes.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

My Shopbop Sale Picks

By now you know I love a good sale, and there are few that I love more than a Shopbop sale.  Some of my favorite pieces in my closet are things that I ordered from Shopbop, whether it’s a favorite handbag or an embroidered dress that gets compliments every time I wear it.  This post was actually supposed to go up hours ago, but I just kept getting so distracted shopping the sale for myself.  I know, bad blogger.

So today I’m rounding up a few favorites from the sale including a couple that are currently in my cart.  (I’m terrible at making decisions during these sales.  Add to cart, remove from cart, add to cart, repeat.)  If you’ve had your eye on something for summer, now’s the time to snap it up.  Otherwise, you can find Tory Burch on sale, an amazing selection of sale swimwear, and some of the cutest little summer dresses under $100.  (LOVE this little lace-up number.)  Take 20% off of orders under $500 and 25% off any orders over $500 with code EVENT17.  Also make sure you check for any favorites in the sale section (like this bag I’ve had my eye on forever) because the sale applies to all of those goodies too.  Sales on sales, my favorite way to shop.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Cheap Thrills, Silver Jewels, and the Best Mules

Every now and then, or maybe more than that, I find myself popping into Forever 21 to check out the new cheap thrills.  I never could resist a good deal (see here), and I swear some of my favorite pieces over the years have come from Forever.  Remember this coat from 100 years ago?  Still have it, still love it.  And I wore these favorite faux leather shorts of theirs at least a thousand times before recently retiring them.  R.I.P.

On a recent trip I came across this little floral bomber, and I was like, my closet could use that, right?  The answer, by the way, is always yes.  It’s the cutest floral print with a slightly shrunken fit.  For $30 I couldn’t pass it up, and once I got to the checkout line and found out that it was actually on sale for $16?  Well that’s a bargain-lover grinning from ear to ear.  This little guy sadly seems to be sold out online, BUT I’m linking several similar versions below that are equally worth the enthusiasm.

And once you score the sweet jacket on the cheap, you can mosey over to the Loren Hope website and spend your savings on something sparkly for yourself.  I’ve always been a “gold jewels only” type of gal and only recently got into rose gold and mixed metals, but silver is making a serious comeback right now and I can’t say that I’m mad at it.  Sometimes you just gotta switch it up a little, right?

Also, my aunt bought me these Tory Burch mules last year, and they are THE most comfortable heels I own, hands-down, bar none.  I need them in any other color imaginable, but unfortunately they are all gone.  (Besides this lonely little taupe pair that someone needs to scoop up.)  I guess my point is that if you ever come across these anywhere in the universe or somehow get the chance to chat with Tory and tell her to remake these, you know what you have to do.

Hope everyone has an amazing weekend – we made it!

A couple of weeks ago I got home from a walk to the grocery store and realized that I had locked myself out of the house.  Always a fun discovery, and in my defense, I’m still getting used to the self-locking door of the rental house.  I had to kill a little time before Eric got home from work to save the day, and luckily I had a fresh People StyleWatch magazine in hand.  (Confession: I’m a total print magazine hoarder, and the nice lady who lived in our house before we bought it has never changed the address on her 100’s of magazine subscriptions.  Slight exaggeration, but girlfriend subscribes to a bunch, and I’m not mad at it.)

Anywho, I’m flipping through the mag and came across this little spring sweater from the Who What Wear X Target collection, and I was like, I need that right now.  I literally drove straight to Target and bought one of the last of these sweaters.  By now you know I love a good bell sleeve, and it’s the perfect lightweight knit for spring.  I definitely recommend sizing up though.  The sweater is meant to fit pretty snug, but I wanted a looser fit so I sized up two sizes.

Paired with the high rise black skinnies that are now on sale, it makes for a super easy and classic spring look.  And if you haven’t checked out the Who What Wear X Target goods lately, you seriously have to take a peek.  Currently on my list?  These adorable green slides, these mules that come in 5 colors, this denim trench, and these lightweight bomber jackets.  To be honest, the list could keep going and going – the spring collection is so good.  Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

If you’re looking at today’s post and thinking, “Shorts?  In February?”  Well, bear with me, y’all.  Whether you’re feeling the spring warmth yet or not (and it seems like so many places EXCEPT for California are right now – where did our sunshine go??), I really do think that now is the perfect time to start stocking up on those spring basics.  For me, there’s probably nothing that I wear more in the spring and summer months than a great pair of loose-fitting denim shorts.  (Emphasis on the loose-fitting.  Does anyone actually like those leg-squeezing styles?  Anyone?)  They’re so easy to toss on with sandals and a tee, but I also love wearing them with wedges or mules and a front-tucked blouse.

Since it’s a little early in the season, today I’m wearing them with a lightweight spring bomber jacket that I’m OBSESSED with (also love the color options here) and the cushy-comfy suede shoes I wear with everything.  These shorts have already sold completely out from one retailer, but I’m linking them above (and here!) where they’re still available in all sizes.  (I sized up one jean size which I normally do with shorts.)  I love the raw, cuffed hem, the distressed detailing, and the super soft denim of these.  If you’re looking for a fresh pair of denim shorts to spruce up your spring wardrobe, I seriously can’t recommend these more.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

On My Radar: Spring Things

Y’all, last weekend we had our first taste of Spring around here, and it was delicious.  We spent the entire day on Sunday Lounging (with a capital L) outside on our back patio, just watching the boats pass by.  I’m telling you guys, this whole “temporary rental home”  while we remodel thing could really become a permanent in my book.  (More on what in the world I’m talking about here.)  Just don’t tell Eric.  It was 75 degrees and beautiful, so I took full advantage and used the day to break in a new favorite pair of denim shorts which ultimately just got me thinking about ALL OF THE SPRING THINGS that I can’t wait to wear.  Shorts!  Sandals!  Dresses!  And denim jackets with just about everything.  (Spring evenings are always a little chilly around here.)  I seriously need that little striped dress at number one, have already ordered the wedges at number two, and was so surprised at the prices of numbers four and eleven.  (And I think you will be too!)  So whether you’re enjoying a little California sunshine or currently surrounded by snow (sorry!), take a peek into Spring, and let me know – what are you guys most looking forward to wearing next season?

In case you missed the, like, 475 photos and videos that I shared on my Instastory and Instagram, a couple of weeks ago I got to attend my second #cabiScoop, and it was just as bananas (in the best way possible) as my first.  I’m telling you, with each new model that walks out in something new for spring, the crowd of enthusiastic cabi gals seriously goes WILD.  It is such a fun event to be a part of, and I hope they keep inviting me back for the next 100 years.

This year’s Scoop may have even been a smidge more fun than last time because I got to catch up with one of my first blogger friends from years ago, Jen.  She and I got to check out the shopping event during Scoop (that I missed last year due to traffic) where they sell past seasons’ collections at super steals.  With my current legging uniform (all day, everyday), I couldn’t resist this oversized tee and cozy cardigan combo.  I’m sure it’s a little blast from the past for the cabi gals out there because I don’t even know how far back these pieces are from, but they’re new to me and oh-so-comfy.

Obviously during this particular cabi Scoop, Spring is the thing, and I’m so excited about the new collection.  It’s REALLY hard for me to even pick favorites, but I’d probably have to go with this killer blazer, the shirtdress I’ll wear a thousand times, or this long cardigan that’s probably way more versatile than you’d think.  You guys know I love a good stripe, so I may have to throw this tee into the mix as well.  Love.  OH!  And one last favorite – did I mention that this season they’ve come out with their first-ever shoes?  It’s true.  Two different styles, and I can’t decide which I love more.  If you missed out on the fun, check out the fun recap video below and then head over to cabi to start planning that Spring wishlist.

Best Sweater Tunic and a New Favorite Way to Layer

Well sure, a tunic-y sweater like this one was probably meant to be worn with skinny jeans or leggings or as a dress by a seriously petite gal, but it’s 2017 dammit, and there’s just no rule against wearing it over your favorite little body-con dress.  (Same dress from this post, BTW.)  How else are you supposed to wear said body-con dress post-holidays and pre-cleanse?  (More about the cleanse coming later, and if you saw my Instagram story last night, don’t judge.  I totally cheated for my last dinner of the cleanse because I committed to going to the opening of Bonchon OC last night with the husband, and who am I to cancel date night?  It’s bad form.  That last Juice Served Here bowl shall make the best lunch tomorrow.  Anywho…)

If your weather happens to be tightrope-walking winter and spring like ours is currently with chilly mornings and nights and pretty hot afternoons, then you just toss that favorite chunky knit over a dress, add your favorite ankle booties, and get on with your day.  Grab a green juice and some fried chicken while you’re at it because life’s about balance, y’all.  That’s what I’m telling myself, anyways.  Hope everyone is having a great week and hope you guys are following along on Instagram as I’m heading to San Diego for #cabiScoop today.  Head over to my Instagram and Instagram story for sneak peeks!
