Who’s ready for a weekend getaway?!  Now I know what you’re thinking.  Umm, didn’t you JUST go to Bermuda and Miami?  But hear me out: When your new house is still under construction, your old lease is up, and you’re living out of suitcases anyway, you might as well take one of those suitcases on a little weekend getaway.  And even better than that, pack a small bag.  One bag.  And get outta town.  Road trip up the California coast, anyone?

It’s no secret around here that I’m a huge fan of lucy for sweat gear and (let’s face it) not-even-planning-to-sweat everyday basics, but did you know they also have some adorable day to night, sand to street pieces?  You do now, girl.  Check out the adorable LBD below or the shirt dress that’s also the easiest lightweight beach coverup.  (You have to feel the fabrics to believe them.)  The romper and long cardi that I chose above would make for the perfect airplane or road trip duo, and how cute (and versatile) is this black wrap top from my second look?  Cute, sure, but here’s the real kicker.  Every piece is lightweight, so comfortable, and won’t look like a wrinkled mess after you unpack it.  (Important, right?  No one wants to look like a slob kabob on vacay.)  So throw in a swimsuit, a few fun accessories, sneakers and sandals, grab your best guy or gal, and let’s go!  Destination: Anywhere.

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you may have noticed a few snaps over the weekend from Palm Springs.  Today I’m recapping those snaps and linking everything, just in case you’re not already signed up with LikeToKnow.it.  I had such a fun desert weekend with my girls, and if you’re planning a little gals’ getaway of your own, I can’t recommend the swimsuit, coverups, beach bag, and hat (clearly I LOVE the hat!) more.  Oh!  And mostly, the pretzels.  These Fatty Sundays dipped pretzels are adorable and SO yummy.  They make the cutest favors for a bachelorette party or bridal shower or a really sweet gift for your bridesmaids.  The Wedding Wednesdays are really counting down now, and we’ll be in New Orleans for our wedding in just two weeks!  (Crazy, huh?)  Hope everyone has a great week!

Beach Style With Marshalls

Ever had that dressing room moment where you wanted to jump for joy because you’ve just tried on something amazing?  I had that moment recently when I put on this swimsuit at Marshalls, and I seriously wanted to knock on the person’s door next to mine just so I could get a high five or something.  Then I thought, “Get your shit together, that’s weird, Nikki.”  Let me rewind here.  I headed into Marshalls that day with a challenge: find the perfect swim look.  Armed with a $50 gift card, a good attitude and admittedly low expectations, I began browsing through the swim racks which were mostly on sale because it’s mid-July and every retailer is already thinking about fall.  (I, on the other hand, am thinking about working in a swimsuit everyday to try and beat this mid-summer heat.)  I picked up a cute top here, bottoms there, and then I came across this suit.  It may not look like much to most, but to those of us with curves up top, it’s a rare find.  A bandeau with enough coverage, a bit of hidden underwire, and a removable strap that doesn’t have to tie behind the neck (and cause neck pain all day).  It fits like a dream, and the best part?  The set cost me a whopping $16.  No joke.  On the way out, I scooped up a pair of my favorite denim shorts (in a color I didn’t have already, of course) for a fraction of their original price.  It was pretty much one of those Marshalls days that makes you feel like you just kicked total ass.  The type of day that makes you want to just grab a killer beach bag (this one is TLC&You and it’s amazing) and hit the beach.  Happy weekend, everyone!

Happy Monday, party people.  How was everyone’s weekend?  We pretty much had the most beautiful, relatively June Gloom free Saturday and Sunday here, and I must admit I’m one lucky gal to live here.  For the summer months, there’s nothing better than a little white dress, and this one is quite a steal.  I think it’ll be a go-to swim coverup for weekends to come, but paired with crochet shorts and the denim jacket that I never take off, it was an easy weekend look.  After a couple of days of soaking in the SoCal scenery, I’m off to New York in the morning and couldn’t be more excited for a couple of days of seeing the City.  Follow along on Instagram for snaps, and have a great week ahead!

There’s probably only one spring staple that I love more than rompers and matching sets, and that, my friends, is the kimono.  It’s the perfect addition to almost anything, from jeans to jumpsuits and swimsuits, and in the world of kimonos, Flynn Skye is pretty tops.  (What can I say?  I’m playing favorites.)  I first came across the brand when working with the fabulous ladies of OC Style Report, and I was immediately obsessed.  The blue and white print is the perfect complement to the denim romper above and was quite the statement in the windstorm-like conditions this day.  And perhaps it helps distract from that supermodel (and blogger friend Jen) that I’m with?  Probably not though 🙂

Since moving down to Newport a couple of years ago, the week of the 4th of July has definitely become one of my favorite weeks of the year.  There’s a definite excitement in the air around here, and red, white, and blue touches can be seen pretty much everywhere.  Bikes are being prepared, BBQ’s are readied, and there’s a genuine happiness in people despite the lingering June Gloom weather.  We live in an area with a lot of weekly beach house rentals, so right about now is when all the families are arriving, ready for their 4th at the beach.  Although I haven’t quite picked out my look for the 4th yet, above are a few pieces I definitely would like to get my hands on.

These simple swimsuits by Becca are my hands-down favorite and have been for a couple of years because the triangle tops are cut just a bit bigger.  (If you’re like me and have somewhat hard-to-fit curves, I’d definitely recommend giving these a shot.)  These seersucker shorts are about the cutest things I’ve seen, and topped with an easy tank and a plaid tied around the waist, they’re an easy Americana staple.  Finish things off with fun accessories, gladiator sandals, and a chic beach bag that’ll hold everything.  Here’s wishing everyone an amazing “Fourth Week”!

I apologize in advance to any readers on the East Coast still covered in snow, but last week we had a little beach weather and I had to take advantage.  For a day at the beach, I love pretty little swimsuit coverups that can go from the beach to pretty much anywhere, and the Ella Moss line at Swimspot is definitely one of my favorites.  I still get tons of compliments on this chevron print from last year, and I was drawn to the delicate embroidery on this one above.  It’s definitely a keeper.  Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!
